ketabah question(s)

hey everyone - FH and I are looking at Ketubahs now and we found one we both love. However, we're not sure how to order it ...

should we get it personalized by the artist with our names and dates and whatnot? That's an extra $75 so i'm not sure i want to ... but is it worth it?

what size ketubah should we order? we see the 'classic' size is 25' x 17' ... is that large enough or should we go one size bigger which is 30'x21'?

last question ... should we get it on regular paper, or should we get it printed on canvas?

thanks in advance, ladies

Before you order, have you spoken with the rabbi who will be marrying you? I know our rabbi told us to speak with her before ordering.

You definitely want them to personalize it for you, because otherwise you're going to have to find someone locally who will enter the names and the date for you and it might be more $$

Is the classic size really that big???? That seems so huge to me...we were looking at something smaller than that.

I have no idea about regular v. canvas....we were wondering that ourselves

Hi,
Old jewish bride here.
I missed LIW and while I was visiting, I found your post.
I can answer your questions.

IMO it's worth it to pay the extra fee to have the artist personalize your ketubah.
if you dont, then your rabbi or cantor will fill it out for you the day of your ceremony.
I think it looks neater if everything is in the same font and not with someone's handwriting filling in your personal information.

as for the size, it depends on you. will you be hanging it in your home? will you be getting it custom framed? the larger it is, the more expensive it will be for custom framing.

if you get a canvas ketubah, you will need to get a special paint pen or marker that will write on the material. a regular pen will not work on the canvas. either paper or canvas would be fine, you just need to remember to get the right kind of pen.

HTH
