Key West (BUMP for JENNCHRIS..With PICS)

Anyone ever been there, stayed over? Is there a lot to do. We are thinking of driving from FT. Lauderdale next sun thru mon to key west. I found a hotel with a very reasonable price.
Any info would be great.
TIA

I have been to Key West. It is a lot of fun. The Old Town has a lot to walk around and see. The marina also has a lot. The square (I forget the name) has performing arts everyday. You can walk to Hemmingway's house and the Southern most tip. I do warn you though, the drive from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West is LONG! It will take you almost all day. You may want to look at some keys closer to the main land.

We're going on a cruise in Aug. One of the ports it stops in is Key West. I heard there's alot to do and see there. I also heard they have an underwater hotel. That would be pretty cool to see!

We went there on our first vacation together. It was so much fun! We rented a convertible and made the 5 hour drive from my parents' house. We stayed 5 days. There are so many fun bars there. The place we stayed at had a nice pool and we had our own fenced in yard outside our room where we ate breakfast everyday. We loved it. Make sure you go to 'Irish Kevin's.' Have a great time!!

YEs you must go to the aquarium and take the conch train.
I LOVE it there but it is a LONG LONG LONG drive from ft. lauderdale!
BUT if you are going to the Keys the you must go to Key West. IMO it is the best.

I love Key West. We only got to spend a day there, unfortunately, but we want to go back.

We did one of those trolley tours, which was a good way to see a lot of the island in one shot. I'd recommend it as a good way to get an overview. Then we walked back to the Hemingway house, which was great. I loved seeing it. We also ate at Kelly's, which is owned by the actress Kelly McGillis (actually, we stopped there during happy hours and had really good wings and margaritas for $8, then we went back later for dinner. Food was so good!).

We did the trolley too. It was good. but I was so tired from the nightlife that I fell asleep at one point.

sunsets at Mallory Square are a must. Are you staying near the strip (Duvall?) Many things to do there...many bars & restaurants... Crabby D!cks and Mobster Lobster are 2 of my favs. Also we went jet skiing & dolphins swam up next to us, and glass-bottom boat tours. The Aquarium is pretty cool too, small but cool . I def suggest renting motor scooters to get around.

Have fun

Definitely check out the sunsets at Mallory Square... there aren't many 'beaches' per se, but my fave beach is Smathers - it's the largest beach there I think... fh and I spent days there feeling like we were on our own little island... then there's also Duval St, of course - where you go to shop, eat, etc. You can also check out the southernmost point of the continental US there - a big rock like thing marks the spot... ummm hmmm... oh, and eat some key lime pie!!!!

I have to tell you - Key West is one of my favorite places in the world... it's so laid back and relaxing and perfect for when you just want to get away from it all. Even the drive down is absolutely beautiful. Have a GREAT time...

oh PS: and go to sloppy joe's for live music and bar food... they have really really great nachos and frozen drinks too.. and good key lime pie (but not the best pie in key west). . .
