Trying to plan a weekend getaway for my BOSS and his wife and our office travel agent isn't much help
Does anyone have any recommendations on great places to stay in Key West? Romantic and can be expensive (I love spending other people's $$)
Any help is appreciated - thanks!!
ETA: for those who know the Keys well, can you suggest any great towns for an overnight stay, in between Miami and Key West?
Meaning, they are driving from Miami to the Keys and might want to make a stop , I hear its a 4 hour drive
TIA

Felicia,
Our firm uses Lawyers Travel Services 212-455-9297. You might have some luck with them.
I have never been to Florida, so personal experience is out.

Thanks so much Kristin. I will give them a call if things get desparate.
I am frustrated that our travel agent is being so wishy washy about looking into this for us... they are probably annoyed b/c we aren't booking the flights thru them or something

I have been to the Keys quite a few times, and I can't suggest anywhere to stay in the smaller Keys, we drove from Miami as well. Each of Keys are so small and don't have that much to offer. Key West on the other hand, I would do a search. We stayed at a great B&B, the beach at the hotel we used was not very nice (seaweed and such)...I can't remember the B&B name, but like I said, I'd do a search and check out a few places. It's very LAID BACK down there and quite a few gay people and transvestites--when we were there-there was a 'transvestitie parade'-is your boss okay w/ that? Depending on the age of your boss, i found it to be very 'spring break' like. BUT this is just my input. My DH has never been there and I would go back w/ him--but other than that I am not sure.

DH and I stayed at the Wyndham Reach Resort and it was great. They have their own private beach, it was very nice. I love Key West!!!

Thanks for the info! I figured there wasn't a whole lot of major towns as you travel from Miami to Key West, but I'll give him the heads up
My boss is totally laid back in general and young, early 40s. So he knows what to expect and is cool with it. He is an expert sailor and is entering a sailing race the following week that starts in Key West so this why they are looking for a little getaway with the MRS the weekend prior to the event.
I think they are looking for more of a resort than a B&B, but I'll run it by him. Thanks a bunch

Felicia - DH and I LOVED Key West. The larger keys before you get to Key West are Key Largo, Marathon Key, and Islamorado - Islamorado is also big-time fishing. We stayed at an adorable place - the Washinton Street Inn. We were looking for something budget friendly though and there are definitely very 'chi-chi' B+B's in Key West. I just started doing a search on the internet and I got all these great websites and found my place online! Good luck! We can't wait to go back!

Re: Key West, FL
DH and I were there in November and we stayed at the Wyndham Casa Marina. It was a beatiful resort with gorgeous suites and a great pool. But there is no beach there. There is not really any beach at the hotels in Key West. But it didn't bother us- it was so pretty and during the day at the pool people came around with ice pops!
The Wyndham Reach is nice too but I didn't think as nice as the Casa Marina. But they have a small beach. Also there is a Hilton there that is nice but they have their own private island in Key West. You have to take a boat to reach your room and I hear its really amazing!

ok, i just want to mock your boss. they can't drive 4 hours without an overnight stay? my family has done it without even stopping to pee.
ps- I'm jealous, that wa sone of our HM considerations & we would like to go there soon. Ok, I would like to go there right now.

Re: Key West, FL
We stayed at the Wyndham Resort in Key West...in all honesty if they have never been there I'm not to sure that I would send them there...like it was said in pther posts...Key West is very laid back, the beaches are nothing to look at, and the town itself is dirty...this is jmo
We went down there last summer and to be honest if it wasn't for the hotel I would have left...it is also very gay..so if your boss is not comfortable with that...fh was getting hit on while I was walking right by his side holding his hand... but it was fun...we rented scooters for the week and would use them to get everywhere...but there isn't much to see or do...it did remind me of a college party town...look into it a bit more before you book...we didn't and we wished we did

Re: Key West, FL
i might not be helping much... but we go to the keys every year for Thanksgiving.. the place is very upper scale and beautiful but not in Key West. It is about an hour from there. It is called Hawk's Cay resort on Duck Key. They are timeshares and a hotel, the grounds are absolutely beautiful, they have a man made lagoon, a dolphin encounter, two pools.
I love it there, here is the link to the website.

Re: Key West, FL
We stayed at the Hyatt when we were there in December. We loved Key West...so much to do and soooo many great restaurants.
I would try to check out the Southernmost House on Key West...it looked like a really cool B&B...just try to make sure that this place is a B&B though...because there are a lot of places on Key West that call themselves the 'southernmost'...and some of these places looked not too great...
DH and I did the drive from Miami to Key West...I really didn't see anything just from that drive that I'd want to stop at...so, sorry I'm not really of any help here...
