How much would you charge to kidsit an 8 year old high functioning Autistic boy? Oh and I'm a special education teacher with a Master's degree.

Re: Kid-sitting?
I would charge at least $15-20 per hour at the minimum, it depends on how many hours a day...

Wow..I watch three kids, all under the age of 8, and I make $13/hour. I guess it depends on the parents financial situation also

agreed - @ $20 an hour there would be little point in me working at all! FHs son (age 11) is a special needs child and we pay $150 per week for full time care during the summer - granted it is a day camp and not individual care, but $800 a week for individual care seems high.

Re: Kid-sitting?
The family is well off and constantly renovating or donating their $$$. Their son is picky as heck about who he will 'allow' to watch him I just asked for a raise to $20 and the mother bugged out on me. Talking about how she only has one kid and stuff. Well I'm now over 30 minutes away, gas prices continue to rise, and last time I saw a raise was almost 1 1/2 years ago. I started to feel like I was being greedy. Plus, these last couple of months she books me during the week for a 2 hr shift (6:30pm-8:30pm) which is such a pain as I get out of teaching at 3:00.

Though she does have only one child, he is a special needs child and she should understand the extra attention her son needs. If she thinks $20 is too much, ask her what she thinks is fair.

What do nanny agencies and day cares charge for special needs children? Use that as a negotiating point. Your education is definitely justification for charging a higher rate, too.
FTR, the blogger in this link pays $12/hour and her kids don't have special needs. She lives in the DC area (like LI, also a very expensive area in which to live).
