I know this has been posted before, but I think it was in reference to older kids (Kindergarten..etc)...
We're adding some books to JA's library and want to make sure Im making good decisions..
Teachers, librarians (marni, jenn, noreen, ALL OF YOU!) What are some great books (for mostly the under 3 crowd (I know you deal with the older ones but I figured this stuff is in your blood )
He already has *Goodnight Moon *Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (just got it in the mail yesterday! =) *Guess How much I love you *Pat The Bunny a few Sandra Boyntons, and some others I cant think of offhand...
Any suggestions that are MUST HAVES ??
I love looking at Amazon and reader's reviews... So far Ive picked out a few (I dont have the list handy, but I'll post later to get your feedback on my list..)
Thanks !

Oooh thanks girls !!!!!!!!!
Claud-isnt it the best feeling when they giggle and react as you read with OOMPH for them and they see each page....
Sometimes JA just dies laughing over what he sees and Im like 'whats so funny ?????? ' Its too cute though!! Some of the books I just start reciting without grabbing the book and he gets excited...
ETA: Claud, It's amazing how some books, though will NEVER Get old. There will be a few that he will want read to him a bazillion times till he can even recite the story!

Oh Anna, that is soooo true! They get 'old' to us...but, I can't wait for the days when he can 'request' which story he wants....soooo cute!
And, I have to tell you that I started to giggle just at your precious description of JA when he gets a 'tickle' out of something in the story....that is SO ADORABLE!!!!
ps - when are we getting together with them? I want to give JA a big smooch! Next week the weather is going to really stink - would you be interested in meeting at the Let's Play, Let's Party place (it's on 25 between my house and yours!) for open play for a couple hours? Lemme know...

I also think those Baby Einstein books are great. They can learn about Art, while learning about colors.

Time to Read
Absolutely right!!! Reading should begin as early as possible ... in utereo is a terrific time to start!
A cute story: My gf who is also a reading teacher was reading .. There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a fly to her groups during her 8th month. She must've read this story at least 20 times over a 2 week period for lessons, then a few times more after that. When her son was 6 mths old, she pulled it off the shelf w/o even thinking and he went NUTS . She said it was like no reaction she'd ever had with him & she read to him all the time!!
Moral ... they remember. So get started right away. Any books that are very repetitive, rhyming, or predictable are EXCELLENT choices. Dr. Suess is amazing ... we have the book ... Oh, Baby, the Places you will go ( meant to be read in utero.)
Also ... Repetition in reading is really impt. The more often you read it the better ... and just when you're sick of it ... that's when it really gets good for them.
Have a ton of fun!!!

Re: Time to Read
I read a couple of children's books to Sean when he was in utero. I sometimes read the 'adult' books I was reading at the time just so he could hear my voice. I hope he didn't remember anything from 'Topping from Below!'

Re: Time to Read
As a librarian I read aloud a lot of books to Tommy in utero as I was reading to classes. That would be so funny if he remembered the stories. We read a book every night and started when he was 2 months. Our favorite is Guess How Much I Love You. It is never to early to start.
