KIDS!!!

ugh....FH and i have been fighting all day... im so frustrated. I really want an adult only affair and only have the kids from our wedding party at the wedding... he is so worried about offending people and is fighting me so hard about it. Its supposed to be our day... he is getting mad at me... all i want is to be able to enjoy our day without worrying about crying and mischievous kids. I love children but not at my wedding. Its a night reception going till 12;30 am, why would people want to bring their children anyway. SOOOO frustrated. Am i being a bridezilla?

you are not being a bridezilla at all....NO KIDS at wedding....a wedding is not a place for children...i'm having kids in the wedding party and dont even want them to go the reception! stay strong w/ this argument....and if hes worried about offending people thats why you sent STD they know when the wedding is ...get a babysitter!

Re: KIDS!!!

it is YOURRRRRR DAY! if you dont want kids, nobody should be offended!!!!

I was going to originally do NO KIDS, and have a simple wedding - but we changed things up a bit LOL and now we are having a much bigger wedding - The only kids invited are the immediate family kids... my niece & nephews and cousins kids.... THATS IT -
we aren't inviting friends with kids or anything....

Nobody should give you a hard time, and if they do - they are selfish!

The only thing im concerned with is that one of my cousins has a baby that cries ALLLL the time - so i plan to call her in advance and say 'hey if julie starts crying, PLEASE have mike take her outside'

I cant deal with that - but i also can't single her kid out -

If you did invite kids - how many would it be???

ahhh thanks guys... he is giving me such a hard time and i feel like i am being heartless... i dont know what to do.

Thats the thing...it would be a lot at least like 15 i think

Re: KIDS!!!

eek 15 little kids is a lot!
Im having like 5 or 6 kids under 5 - not SO bad.... all of the other kids are like 11 and over, and they should be okay!

ughhh i hate that! sometimes FH's just dont get it and dont see things the way we do!

Like i tried explaining to FH that just because he was in 3 of his friends weddings like 6 years ago, doesnt mean they all need to be in ours!!!! he doesnt even really see these guys anymore.....

You will always have disagreements with wedding planning!

Hopefully you can come to an agreement and everything will work out :) dont stress!!!!

Try and compromise. Why not have a babysitter the day of ???

I dont think he is being selfish - perhaps he knows his family and trying to make everyone happy - I would def hear his points and compromise. You can't always have your way.

Re: KIDS!!!

Not at all! We both agreed we didn't want kids at the wedding. This may mean my cousins may not be able to be ring bearers and flower girl. (Talking to my aunt about that one today!) Are you getting married in a church? Have you ever heard a baby crying in a quiet church? It's awful. I remember my cousins' christening, it was such a horrendous sound. Kids cannot sit still through a 30 minute ceremony which is of no interest to them. It's not a kids play or a puppet show, it's two people professing their love and devotion to each other, nothing kids are interested in. Receptions are long and late, adults are drinking and not paying attention, kids get bored and start finding other kids, and the trouble kid always lures the quiet well behaved kids into mischief. And if one of them falls and gets hurt, oh boy, it's all over.
Short and small family oriented day time weddings might be more appropriate to have kids, but not an evening wedding where it's dark, people are drinking and the party goes late. If you paint it like I just did he might change his mind.

Re: KIDS!!!

Just to offer another perspective: We had quite a few children at my wedding. The teens/pre teens had a great time dancing and hanging out with their cousins, and the little ones had a blast dancing with each other/adults and as one commented, 'Wow! They BRING you food!' They loved it, and they did not bother us. Our reception ended at 1AM...by about 12:30, most of the kids were back at the hotel sleeping but some were still going strong.

Not a single child cried at our full Mass.

FH and I definitely agree with this. The only children we're inviting are the kids in the BP, but we have a feeling some of their parents may arrange to have them picked up from the RH.

You're NOT being a bridezilla...Unfortunately FH and I are both very close with all of our cousin's kids but we DEF can't invite them only because it literally adds like 30 more heads. Not only do I not want my FH getting kidney punched in the middle of the dance floor but I want our cousins to have a great time and not have to worry about the kids.

We are inviting about 12 kids to the wedding. They are all in our families. At first FH didn't want any kids but I was able to him when he found out under 6 is free and 6-12 are half price.

Re: KIDS!!!

I'm all for the 'NO CHILDREN' policy ... The STD's give parents PLENTY of time to find a sitter! Even the invitations sent out at 2 months gives plenty of time! I don't find it heartless at all, and not one of my friends was offended that our wedding is adults only - they all want to enjoy the party without chasing their kids around. Think of it this way, you will be saving money on 15 plates, as well as saving money on the DJ handouts ...

I say stand your ground here ... Good luck to you!

i dont really want kids either, except for our immediate family (neices and nephews) and even then they will go home early.

Its a time for the parents to be allowed out a night on the town and relax and enjoy.

I NEVER went to a wedding with my parents when i was younger and i never knew it was an option. and I wasnt upset about it

Re: KIDS!!!

We are having a similar disagreement. If it were one or two kids, it wouldn't be a problem. But he has 30 kids in his family!! And some were JUST BORN!! They don't have to attend a wedding. They are expensive, and even if kids are reduced prices, when there are 30 children, it adds up. Plus, I don't want my dance floor overwhelmed with children, especially since we are going to have 300 people at our wedding. But unfortunately, his family has always included children in every event!!!!

Re: KIDS!!!

I agree with the no kids policy. It's the parents time to have fun. Kick back and enjoy without the stress of worrying where your kids are at the RH or what there doing. Here's an idea, With the money you would be saving for 30 kids take some of that money and pay someone to throw a little childrens party at someone's house. Like a pizza party or something. That way they would be having their own fun and the parents can have their own fun.
