Is it rude to limit children invited to the reception to family-only? Nieces, nephews and cousins? Don't get me wrong, I love kids, I'm just not sure I want a crew of them running around at my reception! Not to mention trying to keep them occupied, and hoping that guests don't have to leave early b/c the kids are misbehaving or falling asleep, etc.
If I were the parent of a younger child, I feel like I would jump at the chance to enjoy an adult night out! But I know a lot of people take offense to their kids not being invited.
What is everyone's take on this??

Re: Kids at reception
I've been going back and forth with this and we're doing teenagers only. I do not want kids running around my weddings. Weddings are for adults

Re: Kids at reception
That's what I think too (that most people won't bring them) but then I've heard that some people add their kids names to the reply card even when the invite is only addressed to the couple. And I don't want people to get upset if they see FH's niece & nephew there, and my 2-yr-old cousin yet their children weren't invited.
Honestly, having kids there wouldn't bother me if I didn't think it would make some people leave early to put them to bed. I would be so sad to see people skipping out at 9pm only b/c it's the kids' bedtime, you know?!

Re: Kids at reception
I don't have any nieces or nephews yet, and most of my cousins are around my age. FH has some cousins, one is is 11 and one is 15. they will both be invited, but other than them and the flower girl, thats it for us.
I think you can limit it to family and people should understand.

It's not rude... It's your wedding and people will understand. Just make sure to make it clear if you do or do not want them.

I don't think it's rude, I'm only having the children in my bridal party at my wedding. I love kids, but I just don't feel a wedding is the place for them.

Re: Kids at reception
It's not rude at all. My cousins have tons of kids and some of them are out of control. IE: at my engagement party they were body slamming against the wall and one was choking their sister and karate chopping. It's so inappropriate and they do not have a handle on them. The last thing I need is to have one of my cousin's children running out onto the dance floor and body slamming against people. I was so horrified and embarassed.
So, the answer to the question is, yes, it is ok to limit children!!!

Re: Kids at reception
i am not inviting children to my wedding. i am having FH's cousins kids in the bridal party as FG and RB but she doesnt want to bring them to the reception. If she did I don't care but none of my younger cousins are coming.
They are all crazy and some of my younger cousins are rude rude rude and they are 10-12 yrs old
but i dont think a night time wedding reception is a place for children.
But I did have a problem at my engagement party. I only invited the teenagers that will be invited to my wedding. My aunt and uncle didn't come because only one of their children was invited. She was 17 the others are 12 and 15. SORRY they are NOT invited!!! And if my aunt and uncle don't come to my wedding then I really dont care for them that is rude, selfish and uncalled for!
I am making the age limit 16 yrs unfortunately. I wanted 18 but my cousin who is 16 I HAVE to have there and then I can't not invite another cousin on my dads side who is 16.
