Ok, if you read my prior post, you heard brielfly about the wedding I went to last night. There were three kids in the wedding party, and about four others invited. Obviously, there was nothing for the kids to do there so they were running around on the dance floor, and one little boy was repeatedly ROLLLING on the floor amusing himself (which, I could see my ringbearer doing worse) so, my question is: What did you do or have available for the kids to do, to keep them occupied at your wedding?
since we are getting married at WM, I was thinking of using the Library as a 'kid occupation' room. I was going to put games on the table and coloring books, etc. But, I don't know if this is enough. Any advice would be great!

You could get a cute personalized chalk table with storage space or a plastic box with personaliation on it...(I saw these at Tri-County yesterday) Then fill it with crayons and stuff. Go to the dollar store and get cute toys cheap. i am having my cousing bring his portable DVD player and lots of kid friendly movies. You can put them in the room with that. How about hiring a babysitter.. Maybe a teenaged neighbor or someone who can occupy them if they get silly on the dance floor.

JMO - it is not your responsibility to keep kids busy. THis is your wedding day. If the parents want the kids at the wedding, it is their responsibility to make sure they are occupied and behaving properly. We only had DH's niece and nephew at our wedding who were the FG and RB - and being that I barely remember seeing them after the ceremony - their parents were acting like parents and doing their job. You will have enough to stress about on your wedding day, I don't think you should have to add kids to that list of stresses.

I completely agree. It's not your job to entertain children on your wedding day (it's not a b-day party -- what are you gonna do - hire a clown? ) and it's not your job to make sure they don't behave like little monsters.

I agree. it is not your job to entertain them. But when the parents don't see anything wrong with them running around and rolling on the dance floor, they won't stop it. It would bother me if they are out of control. I am just being prepared. I am putting together some small things like coloring books and cards to help the parents out. I feel this send the message that I, as the bride don't want the kids running around. JMO

I agree. The only children at our wedding will be my niece and nephew who are our FG and RB and 3 of FH's young cousins. It's their parents responsibility to keep them occupied, not ours.

I agree that it isn't your responsibility, but if you want to prevent a problem, then it is a good idea to have coloring books, crayons, little puzzles (that are age appropriate) and special toys to keep them occupied. I saw little tin pails in Oriental Trading for under 10 bucks for a dozen of them. If you have a lot of kids, you might ask your DJ to play a song just for them, so they can get their wiggles out.

I plan on having alot of kids at my wedding. I even though about hiring a magician or a clown for the kids to keep them busy and making goodie bags for them with mini chalk boards and coloring books. No matter what you do though kids are gonna wind up running around and rolling through the dance floor. I know if I were still a kid thats what I'd want to do

Re: Kids at the wedding- how did you keep them busy?
I plan on having 6 young children in my bridal party at my wedding. I will either do one of two things 1) Provide a babysitter to keep the kids occupied or 2)Ask the parents of those children if they prefer to have a sitter of their choice take the kids home after the cocktail hour and formal picture taking is over. I feel it is my obligation to make sure ADULT guests have a great time. As a teacher of young children, you never know how impulsive behaviors (good AND bad) can be. If a parent has to spend the entire evening disciplining their child, then they miss out on the fun. Children do not always have the attention span, patience or social grace to know what acceptable behavior at a formal party needs to be. Believe me, I know kids will be kids, but the last thing I want to see at my party is a small child crying because they fell and got hurt or are overtired.
