Kids at weddings
I totally understand!! I think there are some exceptions..like immediate family..and if you did invite only those 4 kids..that is fine. But if you want no kids..then no kids it shall be.

Kids at weddings
i have a similar issue...all my cousins have kids, and he wants some kids from his side (or his mom does!),but i don`t want it. besides, i think my family will be happier and have more fun not having to mind their kids all night! i am only going to have the flower girl (his niece) and probably one other of his cousins to keep her company, since they are coming from overseas...

You cant please all the people all the time. Just remember whoes wedding it is. I dont think an exception for immediate family is out of line, but thats just me.

Kids at weddings
we have an age limit. the youngest we will invite is 13, which is the age of my youngest cousin. other than that, no kids, no exceptions!! maybe you could look into getting a babysitter for any out-of towners who have to bring the kids with them. i have a girlfriend who has been the sitter from time to time, usually at her home, although one of the reception sites let them use the bridal suite.

Kids at weddings
My fiance and I are having kids at the wedding. There will probably be 11-13 kids there. Most of them are older, only a couple will be around 5-6. We're close to the kids and being that we live out of state and we don't see much of them, we'd like for them to be there. Maybe it's a different situation. The parents of our flower girl and ring bearer want to have the kids picked up before the reception so they can enjoy themselves. Which is fine. We know they don't get out much! So, it's definitely a personal decision. As far as I know, the only kids that are coming are somewhat close to us. There are no second or third cousins bringing little kids. Just the ones who we're close to and know! Good luck!

We're not having any of my cousins kids, but we are have our brothers & sisters kids. If the girlfriend is almost a wife to your future father in law - you should consider them.

exceptions
you are right.. once you start making exceptions it will not stop! The ring bearer and jr bridesmaid people will understand... we have a sticky situation too.. we have lots of kids in our family on both sides.. what we decided to do was for the engagement party, there was to be no childen, at all, no exceptions, however for the wedding, we are going to invite all the kids.. most places offer you plate discounts on children under a certain age.. when we said no kids for the engagement party, people we not happy, but the bottom line is they all came to the party, and everyone had fun... the thing to remember is, make a decision, stand firm, and stick by it. No matter what, once they get to the wedding, they will all have a good time and the kids wont be an issue! :-)

Tricky Situation
We weren`t going to have any kids at our wedding either, except for my niece (flowergirl) and nephew/godson (ringbearer). She`ll be 4 1/2, and he`ll be 1 1/2. But, my mother became insistant that we reconsider, and we did. We don`t see the kids in our family often at all .. only at family functions like weddings. Well, it`s been a long time since we saw them, and they`ve grown so fast .. now they`re teens. So anyway, they`re invited, and a couple of the girls came to my shower. I was glad they were there and from what I`ve been told, they had fun being there. One thing about little kids, more often than not, they tend to be crowd pleasers. Everyone always oohs and aahs over them. But this is certainly an individual decision, and probably depends on how many children, as well as their ages. Good Luck. Make your decision on what would make you most happy and be confident in your choice, knowing somewhere someone will be unhappy, whatever choice you`ve made. It`s lousy, but it`s your wedding and you should be happy.

FI won - there will be children - LONG
Of course I wanted Fis 2 nieces (14 &4) and nephew (10) at the wedding and his cousin (14)...and I figured that I could say they are immediate family and then no more children, but then my FI said one of his friends doesn't use babysitters and FI thought that if we don't invite 'and family' he wont come. Well, they are Asian and we are not - so I can't say they are immediate family...So we decided to invite kids. Kids under 5 are free for us and 6-12 are 30% off, but cannot be included in the minimum. It will mean about 10-15 kids there btw ages 4-14. On another note...There is a large age gap between some of my first cousins and the rest of us (the first was married when i was 6 months)...when the next got married I was about 8 and we were not invited...We were upset, but my parents and my aunt and uncle got one babysitter and we had a blast...we still tell stories from that day... When the next 2 got married we were invited and also had great itmes there but I was about 12 then... Its a tough decision, but a friend of mine getting married has passed this piece of advice to me from her FSIL: Whatever decision you make will be the right one. And when you make it you will be excited that you made that decision. It has helped me through a couple of wedding decisions.

Kids for me
I am inviting all my nieces and nephews (ages 2-15)to my wedding. It is up to my siblings to decide if they want to bring them. My family is extremely close and it would be strange to have a family event that did not inlude the kids. I will already have my 6 year old granddaughter there since she is my flowergirl. So far it looks as if only my youngest niece (3)will not be attending. My sister said she needs a break for one afternoon!!! I guess it depends on your personal preference. For me the having children there will only add to the celebration.

Wish we could have....
We really wanted children at our wedding, but various circumstances made it difficult for those that were almost immediate family and if we'd gotten into inviting the more distant cousins we would have ended up with about 40 more on the guest list - more than we could handle financially and space-wise. I sure wish they all could have been there. We only had the children of our first cousins but none beyond that.

My opinion
We had 9 kids at our wedding 7 were in the bridal party-- 5 of the 9 were nieces but 4 were cousins kids-- others completely understood that we couldnt invite all of them-- you have to do what makes you happy our kids ranged from 2 1/2 to 9 and I have to say they had a blast---- LauraWelcome New Vendors
