I'm with all of you who say if you make an exception and let one kid come, you're either opening a big bad door or a bigger can of drama worms.
That being said, we're only having FH's niece (6) and nephew (4) and my two 14 y/o nephews. Everyone else is 17 +.
Now my oldest & dearest friend is coming up from Nashville w/o her husband, but wants to take the 5 month old baby girl (who I am dying to meet!) She's breast feeding and is really part of my family.
I have cousins coming from Rhode Island that have a 4 and a 2 y.o. and I invited them solo (haven't gotten an rsvp yet).
How could you say no? What would you do?

Re: Kids & Exceptions...
i would allow a 5-month old. Esp for a good friend of yours. She is going to be a basketcase if she has to leave her child with soemone else, or have to fly someone else out for your wedding too. You definitely want her to enjoy your wedding.... I say leave the 4yo and the 2yo out though... different exception...
Take this however you want, I opted to invite family (out to OUR cousins) and the BP with children, whatever the age... So we will have a 3 month old, three 4yo, a few 2yo, a 7, a 12, and then there are those who said, aww that's so nice and generous of you to invite our kids, but no. we'll leave them home, but thanks!!!

Re: Kids & Exceptions...
I have 2 friends who just had babies. I know they are breastfeeding so I gave them the option of bringing the babies. There are no other children invited outside of my FSS, the RB and FG. Everyone else who has children, those children are 3 yrs and older. If they have anything to say about it, my answer will be 'Oh I didn't know you were still breastfeeding your (insert age) child'. I have lost all patience for people and am no longer being nice.
There are situations people just need to accept. If you want to let your best friend who has to get on a plane to get here bring their baby, you should be able to. It's a different situation than cousin Joan who lives 45 min away and has her inlaws watching the kids.
And honestly, the kid's going to sit in a stroller all night, not causing a ruckus.

I say allow it, as long as that's what you want.

Re: Kids & Exceptions...
I personally did not allow any exceptions whatsoever for my wedding. No kids, period - because I didn't want to make any execeptions and open the floodgates of 'well, why did you allow x person to bring their child, when you didn't allow me?' With that being said, because you have already made some exceptions - I would agree that it would be ok for your friend to bring her 5 mo old...and yeah - you should have to pay for someone who is so young! After all, it is your wedding, so invite who you want

If your friend has a 5 month old and is breast feeding she'll be in the bathroom the whole time feeding the kid. (Hopefully wont be doing it at the table) And they make pumps. If the moms just pump their milk then they wont have to worry about bringing their babies. Besides, what kind of fun is she gonna have with a 5 month old there. IDK, I think she'll be more involved with the baby then with your wedding. JMO
