Kind of wedding related kind of not But I need some advice asap.
So I decided that after dedicating almost 2 years of life to my current employer, that I may want to change my career. I really am getting really depressed in this place, and it’s literally b/c I'm disappointed with the way my position turned out. The creativity part lacks big time, and the work can sometimes be very stressful and flat out ridiculous. I’m not whining, but I really think that I need a change of atmosphere. I go home to FH sometimes so depressed and moody from dealing with the days BS that he actually begged me to just leave. I would love to. But the thing is I really wanted to go into my own business (I want a small boutique), and above all, this wedding seems to be a HUGE drawback when finding a job. I mean, what company is going to let me take time off for my wedding? My current already shut down any honeymoon idea that I may have. This is why my initial plan was to put my 2 weeks in 3 weeks before my wedding. But with the way I am feeling and the way I am treated, I can’t take it anymore. I got a promotion, with no pay increase! And to make matters worse, they shove other departments work at us and expect us to complete these deadlines and stuff. I dunno what to do. I love fashion, I always will, but this aspect of it ruined it for me. I feel so drained. Advice?

So sorry you're dealing with this. IMO you should wait it out as long as possible. As stressful as your job sounds, you probably don't need the added stress of leaving it less than a year before your wedding. JMO

i would start looking, you never know what opportunities are out there
in the meanwhile i would just try to stick it out as much as long as you can
what do you want to do in the boutique? run it? or design items?
have you thought of starting the boutique virtually (online)? it will give you something to look forward to and you can get your feet wet in the whole biz? or selling on ebay or etsy?
my friend is planning a fashion website now and she seems pretty optimistic about it.

unless youre making a sick amount of money... GET OUT..
u will ALWAYS be able to find a job. so staying at a job that makes u miserable is SILLY!. look around and see whats out there. if they want to hire u, they will. if u planend for a honeymoon, that shouldnt affect anything. they just wont pay u for the time off. did u talk to ur boss and tell him u want a raise?

I would love a dress boutique... small, manageable and dresses are so my thing. The online thing is something I actually spoke about with FH, and he said that if I am serious, to get my info together and do it.

an online store is a great way to test the water. start contracting with designers/vendors. you can make an ebay store relatively easily i believe. same with etsy.
it might just be a good start to the real brick n mortar store (plus, if you have sales from an online business, it will probably put you in a better place if you are looking for any type of small business loan later on).

im sorry to be debbie downer, but i dont agree. i would only voluntarily leave a job if i had one lined up (or if they totally crossed some type of ethical line or i was going to go insane). it is hard to find a job and make a nice transition.
and the idea that you can always find a job may be somewhat true...but the quality of the job (and the pay) may not add up.
i have a few good friends that are either unemployed or under-employed and it really *****. and its not for lack of skill or their job search. its just who is hiring, and how much they are paying.
one of my friends went from working at the pentagon (THE PENTAGON!!!!!) to having a barely minimum wage job doing something she is completely not interested in, but she needs to pay the bills. (and she elected to leave the pentagon to pursue a fashion career )

The best advice I ever received about jobs is 'always have one foot out the door' You should never stop looking for something better. I would start to look around, but unfortunately in this economy there is nothing out there and taking a financial gamble in opening your own business is a huge risk.
My advice would be to start looking, post your resume on monster and contact some recruiters. And if by chance you get a new job, if you tell them you are getting married most companies should be understanding about the vacation time.

I agree with Christine and Janis. dont leave unless u have something else already cooking. my FH has just taken a job that under pays and totally out of his realm of qualification not to speak totally beneath him while doing his stuff on the side cause there is nothing out there. and he was looking for a long long time, hunting any possible lead.
u should totally look into the online store like Janis suggested. I've been trying to push my friend who has the same problem as u do (only in another country lol) - she is a fashion editor and her job was keeping her down on top of using and mistreating her.
as my FH does it, u can always do the online thing on the side until u get it up and running and just suk it up at ur current place

Re: Kind of wedding related kind of not But I need some advice asap.
I was in the same position as you a few months ago. I was at my previous employer for 5 years. I was doing something that I absolutely dreaded. I was depressed, stressed and I would always come home in the worst mood. I didnt have another job lined up but thank God my FH had my back and was like I'll support you 110% on your decision. At first I was freaked out when I left my job. I was making good money and I was scared that we would not be able to be ok financially.
I finally made the steps to start my makeup career and soon I will be starting cosmetology school so I could learn hair.
If its something you really want to do and are passionate about, I would research it first. If you guys are ok to do it money wise, I say go for it. Good luck and pls keep us posted on your decision.
