Kinda bummed

So tonight was my first appointment trying on dresses!!

I went to David's Bridal and when booking the appointment they told me to go through the website and pick out dresses that I liked. When I got there they had all my favorites printed and then they had me fill out some information and then I was sitting there and then when nobody cam up I decided that I would roam around and look at dresses... finally someone comes to me and asks me what I am looking for....

I explain to her that this is my first time and I am not really sure but I put some favorites on my list. She sets us up in a room and comes by with 3 dresses.. none of which that were on my list. I tried the first one on, came out and showed my crew. None of us liked it on me so I was waiting for my consultant to come back.... and waited.. and waited... now keep in mind that the store is empty with only 3 other people trying dresses on, one of which was trying on bridal. Finally, I find my consultant and she is helping the girl next to me! I later find out that the other girl works there!!! So now my mom had to help me in and out of idk how many dresses and then had to run out of the room before I turned around so she could be surprised.

I found 3 dresses that I really liked but didn't LOVE but the whole 'appointment' was pointless... AND I had to ask her 3 times to pull some dresses that were on my list....

I am a plus size girl so I didn't think there would be a lot to try on BUT there were a LOT of dresses that I was able to try on so that was a plus. Their selection was great but the service was not so much. The consultant was nice but not very helpful.. OH and... she mixed my paperwork with the other girl (that worked there) and then lost my paperwork in the beginning...

Sorry but I really had to vent.. she even stood there watching my FMIL lace up one of the dresses.... I would probably not go back there honestly

I had a terrible experience at DB too. Go to a bridal salon, the experience is 100% better! Don't get discouraged. I tried on over 50 dresses before I found one I LOVED!

That sucks. You should check out wedding center in commack. They have a large selection.

I am definitely going to a bridal salon, I've heard that Fantasia in Rocky Point has a big plus size selection. I'm just grateful that I'm not going there for REAL yet like to buy something (because I have a lot of time) but I just didn't like feeling that I didn't really matter there.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Which one did you go to? Try Bridal World or Bridal Elegance. They have a great selection. Good luck!!

Sorry to hear that you had a bad exp. I wouldn't go back there & would try a bridal boutique where they will be more helpful. I'm sure you will find a beautiful dress

I agree! Maybe you just unfortunately ended up with an employee having a really bad day, but they should leave their personal baggage at home! If you're looking for another place to go, I had an amazing experience at Lillette's today in Bellmore. I met with Donna and even just looking at BM dresses she was super attentive to us and honest with her input. She was extremely patient with us also which is something I needed because I didn't know the dress style 'lingo' and really had no idea what I was doing.

I've worked with them twice before for my sister's wedding and my brother's and they were amazing. I've heard from almost everyone that you can't really set your heart on something you see in a magazine because it likely will look completely different on. I hope you have a much better experience next time you go looking for dresses!!

They definitely do and they are really helpful getting you in and out of dresses. They didn't leave my side at all!

That is horrible! I never tried wedding dresses at DB but I had the same experience when we went bridesmaids dresses shopping. We went to the one in sunrise hwy and same story the person helping us was nice but not helpful at all. I didn't complain too much since I prefer not having someone pushing us to buy the dresses.

I had a great experience at the DB in both LIC and on 6th Ave. I purchased my gown at 6th Ave store.

That's too bad I had a VERY helpful consultant at DB last year. The thing with any bridal salon is that even if a place has 99 great reviews, SOMEBODY'S going to have 1 horror story. Keep going to other places, though. You'll find The One!

Thank you all for your support and suggestions!!!

I knew it wasn't going to be a bridal salon experience when I went there but I thought they would be able to at least put the dresses ON for me... I didn't complain because I wasn't looking to PURCHASE just yet but I was still going there to find a silhouette that I liked and I guess she knew that I wasn't looking to purchase.

I am excited to go to a bridal salon and try on more dresses... I looked at some pictures MOH took for me and there was one that I really liked in the pictures

I'll let you all know how the other appointments go when I get to them in the next few months
