Is it odd to have the placecards completely different from the invitation paper? I only remember the last wedding I went to and the placecards were the same pattern as the invites. TIA!

No. They can be different. Mine were. It's your wedding you can do whatever you like

thats not odd at all - it's rather sane and the norm. I would perhaps perceive someone to be extremely compulsive if they did match - not to offend anyone on here, I'm sure a bride or two has done it!

mine had the same stamp on it but I'm sure most people didn't even realise as we sent our invites ages before the Big Day!

Mine were different because I also used the ones the hall provided. By that time, I just did not want to spend one more penny on anything, if they were giving them to me, I was fine with that.

It is funny you would ask this. Our placecards looked nothing like our invite. In the year leading up to our wedding - I took note of everything at other weddings I went to. I was trying to prepare for my own. When it came time to do our placecards, my mom and I looked at each other and realized that we never once paid attention to the placecards at the other weddings and we were really trying to notice everything. So I guess I'm just saying that if I didn't notice it and I was looking for ideas - most others will not pay attention at all. most leave them on the table anyway.

I think unless you do something kind of fancy, like votive placecards, noone will notice the difference. The only point of a placecard is to let someone know where they're sitting. That's it. We used the ones our hall provided.
