Kinda spinoff to are you pregnant post by mizzdimple...

At work we've had a lot of ladies marry, have babies, people who've lost loved ones.....

but recently I've felt like women are only validated or acknowledged when they have kids.

For example, at my job a breakfast was organized for the group of pregnant girls, mind you one girl had just gotten married a few months ago and nothing was done for her. The breakfast/shower was done the week before my wedding...lol
These ladies received gifts and cards that we all chipped in for.
Last summer about 3 ladies married and nothing done.

there are about 3 ladies engaged right now, no acknowledgement...lol

my wedding comes and goes...lol
then i hear, oh we didn't know she was getting married...LMAO, I mean I didn't go around anouncing it, but people knew.
We have a person in charge of 'gifts' when someone has a big event (good/bad) happen in their life. I know she knew.
It doesn't matter whether I'm given something, but don't play dumb cause that's annoying.

Then, one of my coworkers says well a woman isn't really a woman until she's a mother...Now don't get me wrong I know it's a BIG deal for a woman to have a baby, but to say it defines a woman I disagree. I think it's a special gift to have a baby, but I don't think it makes me who I am. I think a woman can be validated by who she is as a person, what she's accomplished, how she carries herself....her struggles, her ambitions, her accomplishments

So going back to my comment in the beginning ....do other people feel this way

I agree and the person that made the comment A woman is not ...until she is a mom ...what about all of the ladies who choose not to become moms or can not !! That is so rude. Marriage, children, the loss of a loved one are all life altering events and should be recognized - be it a breakfast, lunch or sending flowers or better yet a food basket to the family who had a recent loss. I will never understand some people.

SO TRUE!!!!!!!! what about a woman who cant have babies and maybe tried so much to have one. Maybe you should inform her of that

you work with a rocket scientists! Seriously I don't understand people! Someone actually said to you a woman isn't a woman unless they have a child!?!?!?

What are we , just breeding machines , our sole purpose in life is to get pregnant and have children ?
Which BTW ANYONE with a healthy uterus( g-d willing) can do .IT DOES NOT DEFINE YOU ! And if it does, well then you are choosing your path to have that define you.

I have said it before on here, and I will say it again. I am turning 32 next week and there are still SO many things I want to do and WILL do before I have children IF I have children .

** not knocking mothers, I love my mother , who is ALSO an artist , a teacher for special ed students .I didn't define her, I added to her life , not completed it !

At my job they only do things for certain people (pretty much only if someone thinks about you at the time)- me not being one of them.

It is sad- we should be doing this kind of thing for b-days, weddings, babies, etc... it just stinks not to be acknowledged for an event.
