I think I'm tired of flushing money down the toilet on cable...FH is as well. It's a lot of money for something that neither of us really watch. (Honestly, I watch mostly stuff on basic television and sure can do away with the crap on cable, as can he.)
So we're thinking of making the switch to Netflix instead...anyone else in that boat too? Just curious and bored at work
Oh and...is the Netflix instant thing (where you can watch shows from your computer to your TV or whatever) pretty decent?

We had cable, like HBO, Showtime, etc for a while and NEVER watched it and it was costing a fortune. Now we just have standard cable (does that make sense?) and do netflix. It totally works for us.

My best friend bought her house out in Wading River last October - No cable yet! They don't Netflix, they use the red box outside the store thing. She's fine with it, her BF - not so much! (He misses the Yanks!)

Basic is what I have, and it's still a sh!t-ton of money.
But we're in Queens, so we'll be able to get the regular channels.

We have Netflix and my husband uses it A LOT. We stream it through our Xbox. They get a lot of the TV shows, none premium though. I mean for 10 bucks a month it's a heck of a lot cheaper than cable, if you can do without.

If you aren't a HUGE tv person, def do it.
Netflix is pretty awesome and convenient, plus you can always watch shows online too (which I have been doing with Make It or Break It)!!!!!

FH and I watch movies via netflix (through the xbox) ... it works nicely - there's usually no lag or weirdness, and the pic quality is really good ... just make sure you're connecting using an hdmi cable

Kris, we have cable and netflix and honestly we are pissing our $$ away with paying for cable. the only thing i like is the dvr box for Channel 11
all we do is watch netflix whether it comes in the mail or stream it through the xbox. we tried it through the ps3 last week and the quality was crap but the xbox is crystal clear.
go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Kinda spinoff to Becki's Netflix thread..
i told FH that was are NOT getting cable when we move in together.
all the shows we watch are accessible on the network's website and our main favorite show is ending ... LOST.
so we are going to save the $40-50 a month that cable would cost us and we aren't going to sign up for it until we've exhausted the public library and netflix's selections.
plus, you can rig up your laptop so the video/audio come up on your tv. so ... it'll work out.
he is hesitant but... when i tell him that we can take whatever money WOULD'VE been spent on cable and put it in a savings account each month... at the end of a year we easily buy a really sweet TV... he'll be sold.

I wouldn't even bother with cable. FH is a huge TV person otherwise I would just do without it. I dont really need tv.

I live for cable but we have netflix too...love both. They just started the free streaming through the Wii (we don't have an xbox or PS3, although I think I might get one for FH for the wedding)...the quality is not so hot, but its nice to have so much at the touch of a finger.
If you really don't watch TV that much then yeah, do without...netflix rocks. We have the 2 DVDs out at a time for $15 and unlimited streaming and we love it.

i barely watch cable except for the weekends, and feel like there is never anything on. We do netflix instantly through the Xbox and PS3 (FH is obsessed) and online and its great for different cable series. I would still do basic cable, but add netflix for the extra stuff. We only do one disc per month (and have had the same disc for the past 4 months, we ****) but use it mostly for the instant content.
