Kitchen Job Position?

Kitchen Job Position?

SO again, FH is without a job. He hasn't worked since September. While I am not working either, because of family situations, it is starting to annoy me that FH hasn't found a job. He's been on interviews and trials but nothing! He isn't as involved as i think he should be in looking for one and I am getting so PIS SED off with him!!! He needs to take whatever at this point, whether is a cook position or not. We need to be able to save for this wedding. So if any of you know of a position in a kitchen please let me know.

Why doesn't he get a job as a waiter in a nice restaraunt? If he's in the food industry, it may be a great way to get his foot in the door!

Plus, if its an expensive rest., he'll be making great tips - esp. on a Fri or Sat night!

Great suggestion! I agree.

Has he looked into any positions as a sous chef?

I had suggested being a waiter. And FH says that kinda blacklists you from becoming anything in the kitchen, bla bla bla.

He's only looking for a prep cook (which he's done) or a line cook position. Those are the only two that he would qualify for. A sous chef is a higher level than what anyone would give him

Are there trade organizations or industry publications with job listings he could consult? Those might be a good place to start. Like Media Bistro (a publishing/media board), except for the food industry.

I also suggest taking a gander at EGullet.com, which is a board for 'foodies.' It's a mix of professionals in the industry from all points in the spectrum (restaurant to catering to B&B managers, etc.) to highly interested amateur chefs. EGullet tracked the opening process of Alinea in Chicago, which is a pretty high profile restaurant. Therefore, I assume the folks there have pretty good connections nationally.

He should try monster and even craigslist! or maybe even check out chowhound.com, its a website for fooddies, someone there might have a lead.

Thanks for the info on foodies and chowhound. As for all the job engines, FH (or me) has tried those and is on those everyday
