Kitchen Makeover

We went to Home Depot a few months ago to get prices and the woman quoted $9,000 to get a nice kitchen and countertops.
With appliances, labor and lighting would you think $20,000 would be enough to estimate the whole job? I need to know how much of a loan I need to get.

how large of a space?

we will do the same in the future - if we were to do what we want to do now (extend the garage, add a bathroom and redo the kitchen) we would allot 30K, don't know if that is realistic though...

We just had a contractor here for our bath and he was telling us for kitchens it's usually about 20,000. He said people usually spend about 7/8000 on the counters and cabinets but then they still need the flooring and labor. Our inspector told us it would be about 30,000 to do the kitchen. I'm dreading redoing things.

$20,000 sounds about right. We're in the process of having a new kitchen designed. It's crazy!
