The first time I heard this particular expression was on 'The Real World: San Diego' when Randy and co. spent most of the season slaughtering the English language. I heard it and all I could think was: 'Wha?' Didn't he mean 'Kid Gloves', as in he handled someone with kid gloves, as in carefully or did he actually have an extra special set of gloves made out of kittens?
It didn't bother me, I just assumed Real World Randy was a dingus.
Then I heard a screechy woman in 7-11 this morning use the 'kitten gloves' phrase 3 times in a 45 second-span. It annoyed me for 2 reasons.
1. Shut your f***ing mouth at 8 in the morning, no one wants to hear you yammering. 2. Middle-aged woman from suburbia are now taking language lessons from MTV's 'The Real World'. Indeed, this is a disturbing world.

If you are handling someone with kid gloves it means you are treating them very delicately.
Essentially it means to treat a person or situation carefully.

The woman was complainging about how her brother's kids don't like her even though she handles them with kitten gloves!
I kept thinking 'maybe they don't like you because you make GLOVES OUT OF KITTENS!!! If you handled them with kid gloves, they'd probably be more responsive.'
