Kitty Attack!

Kitty Attack!

I was playing with my fat cat and he went all exersist on me! He lunged and bit my leg. He's done this before but has never drew blood. It's a gusher! I cleaned it up, showered & it's still going. I yelled at him so badly b/c he's been getting progressivly more aggressive during playtime. I don't want him to think it's an okay thing to do. But I yelled at him so badly I think he was afraid of me for a little while Now that I'm sitting at the computer I think he's trying to make up with me. He jumped up on the chair and is gently nudging me. I hate scolding him like this but it's not a good thing for either one of us. DH is going to be upset when he comes home and sees that he attaked again. We don't know what to do. We can't stop playing with him. He starts off ok and then does this head turn thing and you know it's coming. I try to block him but he's just faster then I am.

I'm going to the worst parent because it is so hard for me to stay angry with people and when I yell at the cats I instantly feel guilty. I'll just make DH do the yelling.

Re: Kitty Attack!

OK I can relate to this... FH rescued our cat and he's pretty aggressive but has mellowed out in his old years. At our mini E-party this May, the cat tore up his arm so bad that when he woke up in the morning FH couldn't move it. We had to bring him to the hospital and he got treated for an infection. His arm looked horrible and hurt him for at least a week.

When he was getting ready to go to the hospital that first day the cat was trying to nuzzle up to him and pretty much say 'sorry.' However I couldn't take it. I was pretty much ready to get rid of the cat at that instant. If I didn't leave when I did (I moved overseas) I think we would have gotten rid of him, I can't have an animal in my house that could attack someone else without notice.

Fh still has him at the house, but he said he's going to get rid of him when he moves to meet me this summer. Its terrible to get rid of a pet, but it got to the point from playful accidental attacks to something much more vicious.

I suggest taking notice of what makes the cat start going off like that, and see if he starts getting worse. Maybe there is something specidic that makes him nervous, or it may just be he doesn't notice that he's crossing the line. Make sure to stop playing with him immediately and yell, FH always points his finger towards the cats face but doesn't actually touch him. Try to teach him the difference between playing and attacking.

That sucks, I hope you feel better!
