Kleinfeld
Did anyone go to Kleinfeld to look for dresses? Do you feel like they overpriced everything? Of course you're going also for the experience. . :)

Kleinfeld - Long Island Weddings
Hello! I actually thought the opposite. I bought my dress from there a couple of months ago, and the price I paid was about $800 less than the price that was listed on their website. My consultant was really nice, and all the dresses she showed me were well below my budget. I have yet to receive my dress and go through the fitting process but so far my experience with them has been very good.

I always thought I should go there to get the best selection and experience, but I was kind of turned off from the show to be honest. I think the whole experience looks awesome, I don't know if its the editing on the show, but they seem like they rush people and are all about a sale. Also I am happy I bought close to my house for convenience purposes.

I ordered my dress from Kleinfeld! I worked with Paula and she was amazing. I had tried on about 50 dresses at other salons and the second one Paula pulled was the one. She stayed within budget and even offered the 12.5% discount you hear mentioned. My dress hasn't come in yet, so I don't have experience with fittings at this point. It is also more convenient for me because I work in the city, and the trek out on the island is no fun during the week. The only thing I didn't love was that I did feel slight pressure from the accessory girls. I ordered my veil because I loved it, but I drew the line at the $350 headband that looked like it came from Claire's.My experience was just like the show, without the rushing. Paula took me out to the main floor and everyone oohed and ahhed and they did the whole 'are you saying yes to the dress?' bit, which my mom ate up. I'm not one for a lot of attention, but I have to admit it was fun.

Re: Kleinfeld
i have been toying with the idea of making an appointment, but i keep seeing on their site that dresses start at $2,500, which I think is out of my budget. my mom is buying my dress and i don't want to go there and fall in love with something and make her feel bad if it's something she can't afford ... especially since she is paying for the wedding.

I think it all depends on what kind of experience you want to have. My FSiL and one of my good friends both went to Kleinfeld and both felt rushed. Apparently for your first appointment (they expect you to make more than one, basically) you have approx. one hour to try on as many dresses as you can. The consultant pulls the dresses based on what you described liking. They also do not have much selection for under $2000.At other places, the consultant is there to guide you through racks, but not necessarily pull dresses for you. I know one girl above posted about Village Bridal, and how she felt that they were ignoring her and that her mom and bridesmaids were pulling dresses for her. Most of the salons I've been to (and I went to about 14) did it that way. They do not have nearly the amount of selection as Kleinfeld does, though.
If you like looking yourself, you may not end up liking the Kleinfeld experience. If you want to go just for the experience, I'd say go with an open mind and plan to walk out empty handed. That way, if you do see something you like, it'll be a pleasant surprise.

I had the best experience at Kleinfeld and remember, it's not just about choosing the dress but the alterations as well.It depends on what experience you want to have. I went everywhere on LI because I thought Kleinfeld would be too expensive. I didn't have the greatest experience in most places anyway and I just couldn't find what I was looking for. At Kleinfeld they had the same dresses as other places, i.e. Maggie Sotterro for $1200 which was one I was looking at elsewhere, as well as their signature designers. I told my consultant what I wanted and she pulled something perfect for me in my price range. She was the only one out of everywhere I went that really got it.
The rest of the experience was amazing, too. They know their prices are not the cheapest so they recommended places for me to go to get accessories. I purchases a beautiful belt at M&J and the seamstress sewed it on. My dress is absolutely perfect as far as alterations and my hem wasn't easy to alter (and needed to come up a lot because I am so short.) Even the bustle she did was amazing.
The communication is great, the people are friendly. And they even let me go back when Pnina (my dress designer) was in town so I could meet her. We stayed in budget (even with the alterations cost) and I got the perfect dress for my body. I pick it up Saturday, can't wait! :)

It was a great experience..my FSIL got her dress there last year and I went with her (and it was right on her budget)and the experience was great! She also got her veil there. I personally didn't go since I found my dress after the 3rd place I went to, if not that would've been my next place to go. Check when they're having trunk shows of designers you like and that will help you stay in budget..good luck!!

Most of the dresses I was shown were Maggie Sotteros, all under $2000. I was actually first turned off by the show..but for me it was nothing like it in real life, in a good way. Paula was my consultant as well. Very sweet and and did not rush me at all. Appt. time I believe is set for 1 1/2 hr..I did not realize I was there for over 2 hours before I chose my dress! Aside from this one pushy girl that tried to get me to buy accessories, the experience was great.Welcome New Vendors
