I just wanted to give you all an FYI-- I tried Kleinfeld room blocks and then went to hotels myself. I actually got room prices cheaper just going to the hotels. Just be aware that you won't always get the best prices. In one occasion, they also didn't give me a quote on one of the hotels I asked for (I asked for 3, they gave me 2 of those hotels and 2 other hotels which I didn't ask for). If you really don't care or don't have that many people staying in hotels, it might be easier to use Kleinfelds. Since my parents are from out of town and all of their friends/ my side of the family are too, I was REALLY concerned about getting a good rate. It was easy enough to just do it myself!

Good point. I had mixed feelings about Kleinfeld. For the most part it was very helpful. However they do charge a commission that they get from the hotel you book with so I could see it being worthwhile to just contact the hotels yourself.
With the being said, for the hotel I chose I got the same price from Kleinfeld and when I contacted them directly.

I definitely don't even know if I'm going to need a hotel block, since I don't know how many people will be staying in a hotel.
Who did you talk to at Kleinfelds? I talked to Sara and she gave me an initial list of hotels she was looking at, then she sent me five hotels, and then one more. I asked her about one other one and she gave that to me as well.
I just found it a relief that I didn't have to call hotels, since I'm not even sure I need it.

Michelle sent me a quote. I think it's great if you're in okellies boat and you don't really need the hotels or not many people will take advantage of it. For that, Kleinfelds is so helpful!
Another reason it didn't help: I'm also using hotels in RVC, and since they're the closest (affordable) option near Long Beach and near all the bars, they tend to fill up over the summer. Two of the three hotels I visited this weekend were completed booked over the weekend. One of the hotels that Kleinfeld gave me (and I didn't ask for) was the Allegria in Long Beach. There's no way any of my guests are going to take advantage of the 'discounted' rate of $399 a room! They also quoted us a honeymoon suite that was between $900-1200. Never going to happen!
Also-- I'm very lucky to have the most helpful (sweetest, nicest, etc.) FMIL ever who is local and who went back to the hotels today to finish what we couldn't do over the weekend since the sales managers weren't in over the weekend. She doesn't work and loves wedding stuff, so it's been such a help. ESPECIALLY because I hate calling places also (and stepping away from my desk, etc.).

It was nice to get a comparison between hotels but most of the hotels on their list for me were like a half hour from the venue! Sarahg9 is getting married the same weekend as me at the same venue so she sent me her list and she had a few closer hotels. We ended up contacting the hotel we were originally interested in (for whatever reason they told Kleinfeld they were unavailable) and are blocking on our own.
We were in contact with Sara and she was very responsive and helpful!

I had the same experience. I got my hotel rooms about $20 cheaper doing it myself then through them

Which hotels did you girls get cheaper booking on your own? I'm just curious because I'm looking to book the hotel block at Hilton Garden Inn and was planning on going through Kleinfelds

Re: Kleinfeld Room Blocks
I have a hotel block at the Hilton Garden Inn and got the rooms for $20 less when I went to them myself compared to the quote I got from Kleinfelds. I also talked to them a couple of months before I got the quote from Kleinfelds so I don't know if that affected the price difference too.
