Kleinfelds alteration question
I got my dress at Klienfelds and am so in LOVE with it! However, their alteration cap is $700 which I find too expensive. I am allowed to get my dress altered somewhere else however for some reason I am VERY nervous about this!My question is, does anyone (both Kleinfelds and non-Klienfelds brides) know of another place or person that does great alterations for a cheaper price? or has anyone else had a similar situation? Thanks!

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
I would get the alterations done at kleinfelds. Depending on what you need done, it may be more or a little less someplace else. Also, if you hate what they did or they mess up, It's kleinfelds fault. They are reputable and will do the right thing.

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
I am getting my dress at kleinfelds also and I too hated that alteration fee...especially Since I hardly ever need to get my stuff altered. But like you I was in love with my dress LOLim still getting it done there tho, only because 1) I do not know of any other place that I trust to have them done and 2) a lot of times places will not except wedding dresses due to how complicated they are and they do not want to be at fault it something isn't just right. For my own peace of mind im just sucking it up and doing them there. I found other ways to cut costs, making sure my dress is perfect isn't one of them

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
I know you guys are totally right. My dress was like 1300 less than my actual budget so spending 700 isnt that big of a deal but it KILLS me bc I can do so much more with the money I could have saved somewhere else. But bridal salons ususally will not alter a dress unless it is purchased in that particular store.

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
I got my dress at kleinfelds and I'm having it altered there. It is lace and they have to make sure the pattern on the lace matches up perfectly, so I would prefer them to do it.

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
I got my dress at Kleinfeld's as well and I'm having my alterations done there.Did they raise the price of their cap? I was told it was $595 when I got my dress & I think I actually paid for it already when I initially ordered it.

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
My best friend, and cousin each bought their dress at Kleinfeld's but had the dress alternations done at 'Alterations Unlimited by Gina' in Deer Park, and both loved their dress. I also had my bridesmaid dress for her wedding done there and was extremelly pleased. To top it off, when I went to Kleifeld's for my dress, I asked my saleswoman (noone I had ever seen on the show) if I had to have alterations there, and if not if they could recommend anyone on LI (my dress was way over my budget and I didn't want to spend the $700 I was quoted), and she actually gave me Gina's information! As a result, I sent my bridesmaids to her to get their fittings which they loved, and as soon as my dress is in, I'll be going straight to Gina also.

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
I don't have a price list from her, but I know my friend and cousin each said they saved a couple hundred dollars using her (including beadword, bustle, shorten length, add sleeves and take in). Best way to get her is 516-528-1844.

No problem at all. Hopefully you can give her a call to discuss. She'll definitely save you money and her work is perfect. Good luck!

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
I didn't want to get my dress altered at the same place i bought it so based on reviews i went to gina. My dress is very simple (no beadwork, lace etc) I am getting it hemmed, a bustle, and taking it in a little at my boobs so people can't see down my dress. I am paying about $50 - $100 more than other places, but I felt comfortable with Gina so I went with her.

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
i know it seems like a lot of money, but if you really care about how you look I would stick with Klienfelds. I had mine done there- my dress was lace applique and bobbinet. They are truly experts and on the day the dress looked like it was made for me. What she did with the bustle, I had both a french and american for the two layers of my dress, I have not seen on any other pics of girls on the same dress. It really makes a difference to know that person working on your dress is devoted to wedding dresses. Also, while you may not think you need that much, when you get the dress, you may find there are things you didn't notice in the excitement of the purchase.pics of me in my dress altered at Klienfelds

I remember your dress and I remember admiring it from your review! It looks like a they really put a lot of effort into altering it. Thank you so much for your advice! Who was your seamstress?

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
I was given Ellie. I believe she is a lace applique specialist because all the dresses I saw in her room had lace applique. I LOVED her- she went above and beyond to make the dress fit exactly as I wanted it to.

Re: Kleinfelds alteration question
I definitely agree that you 100% want someone who knows what they're doing with wedding dresses and especially lace. I have the Maggie Sottero Primavera which is all lace bottom and my friend had all lace bottom also (not sure of the brand). I think it says something when the saleswoman at Kleinfeld's recommends an outside vendor. Of course, the first recommendation is to where where you're comfortable, with both the people and the price. Whatever you decide, good luck with everything!Welcome New Vendors
