Kleinfeld's brides... spinoff to seamstress Q

Did you guys tip the seamstress for the alterations? If so, how much?

I didn't know that seamstresses get tipped. I'm a big dope!! So I don't know if I'm supposed to tip her or not. The alterations at Kleinfeld's are kinda high to begin with so I don't know if this is the norm.
Please Advise.

I'll take any answers.

Kleinfelds charges like $595 or something for alterations. Plus on top of that it's an extra $75 for me because I'm sweethearting the top. So because their alterations are sooo high to begin with... I'm jsut not sure about tipping them.

I did not know that we are supposed to tip the seamstress? My alterations are costing me $300 because the dress is huge (I am convinced it was ordered a size to big )

At this point I don't think I am going to tip them

I too bought my dress from Kleinfelds, and I too paid $595 for the alterations.

Now she did and amazing job (built a french bustle from scratch and her imagination!!)

But I never even THOUGHT I would have to tip her.

I thought the price was so high for alterations, and they should be paid VERY well for the prices they charge.

Crap. what do we do?

I just e-mailed Randy (the fashion director) for his advice.

Will let you know when I get an answer.

I have to be honest - it would never occur to me to tip the seamstress!

I'd like to start a campaign to tip the paralegal/office manager!

I bought my dress and had alterations done at Priscilla of Boston in Roslyn. I paid almost $600 for my alterations. I personally tipped my seamstress $40 because she truly deserved it. I think it's important for people to know that the $595 Kleinfeld and other salons charge does not go to the seamstress. Only a small percentage goes to them. I felt my seamstress really deserved a tip so I tipped her. I don't think anyone should not be tipped for a good job because of the price the bridal salon is charging for alterations. I also think it all depends on your seamstress! During Kerri's Kleinfeld fitting her seamstress was AMAZING! However the seamstress the girl next to her had was a nasty c-u-n-t. I would never tip someone with that nasty 'tude no matter what! I just wanted to give another opinion.

It didn't occur to me either. then when I saw it this morning I thought.. hmm do they do that as well at Kleinfeld's. I know it's slightly a different type of place... so I really wasn't sure. But I don't want to not tip if it's something I should do. I'd feel terrible about that. I'll probably tip since it seems to be the norm.

And we should add trainer to that list too!! Tip your trainers too!! hahahaha!!
