Klienfeld's frustration

Klienfeld's frustration

I don't understand. If the dress is at Klienfeld's now, why does it have to be shipped to NJ if it has to be right where it is?

But you are right, they should have told you about the form at the time the dress was ordered.

The point of having it shipped to NJ is so that you pay NO tax at all; just shipping. Kleinfeld's does not have a place of business in NJ, which is why there is no tax if it is shipped there (I worked there when I was in HS, so I know all about it).

I'm glad to hear you had a great experience. I've spoken to every hair stylist at every showcase I've gone to and they were the only ones that were really excited about showing me what they could do. The girl I spoke with would have sat me down and done my hair right there if she had her stuff with her. I happy to hear that the salon experience was just what you hoped it would be. I will definitely go to them for a trial when I'm ready.

For tax reasons they need it in affidavit form. Also, it is my understanding that you have to have form notarized, not your mother, because you are the bride and technically the person purchasing the gown. They should have given you the form when you purchased the gown (that is when they gave it to me).

Klienfeld's frustration (long)

Don't let it get you frustrated, you still have time. Another pointer: NEVER go there on the weekend; the place is always a zoo on Saturdays. It would be worth you time and effort to take a morning off of work to get fittings, etc. because you get the attention you deserve (especially after I am sure you spent a fortune on your dress!) Good luck, I hope everything works out. FYI for prior posters, there is new management there which took over a little over a year ago (I heard that the prior owners were atrocious and did quite a bit of damage to the Kleinfeld reputation.)

I think New York and New Jersey have recipricol tax agreements, which means that if you live in NY and bring a NJ purchase back there, you can get nailed for owing taxes (they'll get you any way they can) I recall when IKEA opened in NJ, the NY tax officials were recording the NY license plates in the parking lot and going after people.

There's nothing that says the Bride has to purchase the dress - her Mom, who is a legal NJ resident, could purchase it and give it as a gift, so I'd suggest that the person living in NJ be the one to have the slip notarized, just to play it safe.
