kmc and other brides who take outdoor photos

I've read where several of you have suggested that brides have a back-up plan if it rains. What places would you suggest besides the photographer's studio and the reception hall? I know Westbury Gardens has the mansion for indoor photos, but I also heard there is a long walk on grass to get to it. How smart is that?

If it's sunny and beautiful, can anyone recommend some nice beaches on the North Fork in Nassau that would be good for photos? We won't want to go further East than Route 110.

Oyster bay has a nice pebble beach. I am not sure of the exact location though. As far as I can recall, Bayville is also nice on the Gold Coast! Plus, there is a lake in Roslyn off of Roslyn Road, by the Clock tower. Even though it is not a beach it is cool b/c there is a beautiful old church in the background on one side, and a park on the other.

It rained on my sisters wedding day...her plan was to take pics with the BP on Northport Docks...but instead they took pics just with the two of them and umbrellas...and then the BP took pics in the reception hall...

I think all the reception halls have plans for rain...


as for a beach...you could go to Caumsett State Park in Lloyd Harbor - just West of 110

I didn't have a backup place, so I can't answer really. But keep in mind that sometimes there will be a wedding before yours, and you might not be able to get into the reception hall early enough to take pictures. The wedding before mine ended at 5:30 p.m., and my ceremony was at 6:30. When we arrived, the other couple was just pulling away, and then they were rushing around cleaning up the old wedding, and setting up the new one. Not a good environment for pictures.

Also, if your limiting your pictures to after the ceremony, you'll only have cocktail hour, and that's really not a lot of time.

I would try to find a nice place indoors that's isn't the reception hall. Some of the nicer hotels have pretty lobbies with fountains, etc. Might want to look into that as an emergency backup for pics.

we have booked old westbury gardens, but if it rains we'll just take them at the reception hall during cocktail hour.

Take a look at EAB plaza and see if they would let you. I am not 100% but I seem to remember seeing pictures of brides in the attrium there.

when I visited gray studios they told me I could use the EAB plaza... but that it has to be booked thru the photographer and the fee is about 150

My photographer also mentioned EAB Plaza if it rains. Check them out - I don't think it is very expensive.

Girls, do you know if any of these places give refunds if you don't use them bec. of the weather? Specifically, Old Westbury Gardens or Planting fields Arboretum if it rains, and EAB if it doesn't?
