Knitting Classes

Knitting Classes

Does anyone know a place that offer classes on how to knit? My friend is looking for a place that does this. We found on in the city but it is pretty pricey. We are looking for something where you can organize your own group and someone comes in and teaches you to knit? LI, Westchester, NYC - location not a big deal.

This place in the city does this for a baby shower type event. You can bring a group and you all learn how to knit a square and they help you put it together for a keepsake blanket. I thought that was so cute.

I haven't heard of anything like what you're describing, but I did see a number of people on a knitting chat board talking about a store in Smithtown - Keep Me In Stitches, that had a really nice, helpful staff that was teaching customers how to knit. Most small knitting shops will help with instruction if you purchase your supplies from them.

You might also want to contact the LI Knitting and Crochet Guild or the Big Apple Knitters Guild (link below). They may have a member interested in what your're interested in regarding the baby shower.

Thanks. The place in the city is something like $50/hour a person and that is without supplies or food or anything - I thought that was a lot to ask people.

Karen H - I am checking out the link you posted.

$50 an hour!!! And that doesn't include anything???

I'm sure you can find places willing to teach knitting for less. A lot of the school districts have knitting courses as part of their continuing ed classes - and check the libraries too.
