I saw a sign in Michael's the other day in Manhasset and I used to go to Dottie's for lessons on Saturday mornings. It is on Merrick Road in Amityville. I know alot of places in the city offer them, but they are more expensive and always sold out months in advanced. I would also try calling the Yarn Garden in Plainview, I think they may do classes as well.

no, not at all. My mom taught me the basics in an hour. Once you get the basics down pat, you can figure anything out...for the most part :)

Also, I signed up through the internet for a knitting group when I lived in the city. We always met at Barnes and Noble on Wednesday evenings. It is a big learning session, where you can go and get help if you are stuck or just hang out and knit. See if you can find one like that online. Google it.
