knives-registry

Im updating my registry and want to pick new knives. Anyone know of knives that are cheaper than Calphalon Contemporary 17-Piece Knife Block Set $199?
I really want knives!
what are your knives?

I have Cusinart knives that were originally $99. They are now on clearance for $79 so I guess they are being discontinued.
We are probably going to select a better set now, but I really want a set that has 8 steak knives instead of 6 and that is hard to find.

Eek. Cheaper than $199 for a whole set? How many pieces? How much of a cook are you & FI? If you guys love to cook I would recommend investing in a really good set. Which with a block would easily be more than $199.

Personally, the FI & I swear by Wusthof knives. A lot of people like JA Henckels, we've used them before and thought they were good. But not as good as Wusthofs.

I would recommend perhaps registering for individual pieces of a set if you are afraid no one would buy you a whole set?

Check out Overstock.com they regularly have REALLY good deals on sets.

Good Luck!

We have the Miracle Blade 16piece set on our Amazon Registry. It's $35.

Well I cook a lot and one thing I want is a good set of knives, so a friend of mine told me the best place to register for knives is Williams-Sonoma (she actually helped me pick out which ones are the best since she used to work there). The good thing about WS knives is that if anything ever goes wrong with them (the end gets chipped or anything happens to them, W-S replaces them for free). I actually think they do that with all their major appliances as well (but not sure).

I really want a good set for cooking and maybe a few steak knives-so it doesnt have to be a big set-but they have to sell them at bed bath and beyond or macys. I just want something that can stay sharp.
I guess if i dont get them I can get them on my own

i was going to suggest henkels... we currently have the 'cheaper' set... its good for every day cooking but we registered for the nicer set ($500+)...

there is a big difference between the knives that are cheap and that arent, the cheap ones are machine cut, not hand cut, aren't ice hardened... it just depends what you're looking for

We use Cutco knives all the way. They are the most AMAZING knives ever. They aren't cheap by any means and you cannot get them in a store you have to order them direct from a salesman but they are soo awesome. Lifetime guarantee and they never dull. The most amazing addition to our kitchen and they look way chic too.
