We made an appointment with the recommended band, but I also want to see who else is out there. It's sort of hard for us to go to showcases since my fiance is out-of-town. I know that the band really makes the party - who do you guys recommend?

Re: Know any good bands?
Someone on the board yesterday pointed out that the best bands do not showcase b/c they don't need the referrals. You're doing the right thing by asking around.
My girlfriend went with NY Swing ... they play every type of music imaginable. They were worth EVERY penny! We danced all night non stop ... several vocals, horns etc. They were featured in NY Bride magazines. If you want the # fm me. I'll ask her for the number from her

Re: Know any good bands?
It was hard for me to go to showcases also, so I called a ton of bands and most of them sent me videos or CDs - there were only a very few that wouldn't. The band I really wanted was Kameleon - I saw them at a wedding, but they were booked already for my date. I ended up booking Primetime Live, one of LI Paramount's bands. It was the only showcase I went to and they blew away every CD and video we'd seen as well as any other band we've seen at a wedding (with the exception of Kameleon).

It depends on what type of music you are looking for. I went with a 12-piece band that will play jazz standards and music from the 50s-70s ( anything after that sounds weird to me- plus I can go clubbin' for that). I'm using the Gerard Carelli Orchestra. Jerry Kravat has a bunch of great bands too- pretty much all different styles. These are the musicians that the society people in the city use... really good and not cheezy at all. But they don't do showcases.

I used Central Park from Steven Scott Orchestras. They came highly recommended by the catering hall, and were fantastic! I had a Sunday afternoon wedding, which tends to be more sedate, but the dance floor was hopping. They also had a great sense of what to play when -- there were none of those awkward moments where the dance floor was packed, song changes and everyone sits. People just stayed up there song after song! I got lots of compliments and requests for their contact info.

I'm using Rhapsody from Skyline Orchestras. I fell in love with them the first time I heard them. However, it took me two showcases before I really decided.

Re: Know any good bands?
We booked a band called Good Clean Fun, I dont think they do any wedding showcases, but I am not sure.
A friend of ours works in Rory Dolans and suggested them, they play there sometimes. So we went and checked them out. I really liked them and they played a wid variety. They have 5 of them and out of the 5 of them 3 sang, which I thought was great. I dont know what kind of band you are looking for, we wanted a band that could play plenty of Irish music, and they could so it was good.
Also they have very good prices for a band, I was happily surprised.
If you have any questions please forum mail me, I would be happy to tell you more or answers any other questions.
here is there website www.gcfun.com on there website they should list where they will be playing, I know they play in the city too
good luck I hope this helps kimberly

I highly recommend Chaser.
Close family friends, VERY cool people, they make a real party, but are very classy and wont make anyone feel uncomfortable. Private message me if you have any questions, i can get you their URL and they will send you a CD.

Re: Know any good bands?
We are using Eturnity Band...they are 12 piece soul/funk/R&B but can play anything from Sinatra to Madonna. One of the drummers used to be part of James Brown's band. Our reception hall recommended them as they had played there once and blew everyone away. They play at Lola's on the weekends. Let me know if you want more info.

Re: Know any good bands?
We are using Ken James Band- Ken James himself. My FH saw them play three times and absolutely loved them!!! They rocked the house- everyone was up and dancing. When we went in, we met with Ken himself--- not just a salesperson. That was a nice touch.... The band itself is a 10 piece band- their singers are unbelievable! And they aren't as well advertised, out there as bands like Scott or Hank Lane (although those bands are great too- we looked!!!).
