ITs beena really crappy week...FH is going to be losing his job...for no reason...AT ALL..he is going to corporate about it....its a loong story...
But,. he has his Health Insurance PAID at this place......what does COBRA do? I am nto sure...neighet one of us ahve ever gotten unemployment or any of this stuff before....

COBRA is a way for you to get health insurance, through your old company (wether laid off of quit)
You usually pay whatever it would cost an employer to insure you but it means you do not have a lapse in your health insurance. You can have it until you find another job.

yes you have to pay..unless your FH job decides to lay him off but still pay health insurance.

You are entitled to cobra benefits for 18 months. And most companies make you pay the insurance. and the WORST part is if you are even a day late with the payment they cancel you on the spot...

But if they lay you off.....and you are collecting unemployment, how the hell do they expect you to pay? He never had to pay for it before..and now he will be outta work AND have no Health INsurance.....I HATE THIS COMPANY.....HE is challenging this ass through Corporate, maybe he can at least negotiate that......

When DH left his last job we took Cobra for one month until the new insurance kicked in.
It was almost $400
We still have it for dental b/c his new company doesn't offer it.

FH is working currently in a health care place, making food....but when he leaves, he will go to a restaruant more than likely, and they take FOREVER to kick in benefits if they even do

Cobra coverage has been increased to 36 months for some time now. While it's expensive, you're guaranteed coverage for up to 3 years now, instead of only the year and a half previously given.
cobra.... you pay, more than before, but less than if you had to get insurance on your own..

Well Cobra is absolutely necessary if you have a preexisting medical condition - if you have something, and then your insurance lapses, new insurance (once you get it) will NOT cover the condition. My FH has a condition that he has to take a whole lot of medication for - COBRA was not only less than his meds cost per month, but if he didn't have it, once he did get his insurance, the new insurance wouldn't have covered his meds (which are ~$350/month)
