So the second anniversary of my 29th birthday is coming up really soon. I am not looking forward to it, but I still feel like I should do something. My mom said she isn't doing anything because of the wedding. I don't expect gifts or anything, but I don't want to just ignore my birthday, whether I like it or not, its a big one. Am I being selfish or asking for too much? Now I'm worried to ask my friends to go out because mom thinks I'm being self-centered.

um NO it's NOT self centered at all!! You should go out with your friends, even if just for drinks or dinner.... and really it's your Mom's loss if she wants to ignore it.
I also have non-involved parents, but you surely have friends that will want to celebrate your 30 yrs!
(and btw, the first time you say 'I'm 30' it is kinda weird, so be warned.

You're not being selfish at all, its a milestone birthday and should be celebrated! I'm in the same boat as you this year and while I don't want everyone going nuts I'd at least like to go out and celebrate for the day. Enjoy it and I hope you have a great Birthday

you don't have to do anything big. Just dinner and drinks with friends can be something nice! I'll be 29 soon and I am getting sad that it's going to be my last year in my 20's

no for a 30th bday. you are not asking for too much!!! that is a milestone and you have to go to everyone elses 30th and so they can come hang out for yours. I think if you don't do something, you will be sadder, even if its just a group dinner or drinks or something.

You should definitely do something to celebrate. Just because you are having a wedding doesn't mean you can't celebrate anything until then.

i dont see why you cant get dinner or go out for the night with friends.. Your not expecting them to pay for you , you just want them to celebrate.. We always go out with our friends on our bdays.
