Nina I saw your note about your trial with Kristen and your delema about going to her just for your hair. She is my hairdresser and If you want to go to her just for the hair shes really cool and understanding so dont feel unconfortable. She isnt the type to get bent over things like that. She is very professional and would be happy to do your hair with or without the makeup. She also does my hair color and is awesome. Good luck!
I have an appt with her tomorrow for a makeup trial only. Because i have dark skin, and most makeup artists (especially in LI) are not experienced or do not have the colors, I was concerned. But Kristen reassured me over the phone that she does have the colors and experience. I'm just going to show her pictures of hairstyles that I like, and talk about it. Her prices are the most reasonable, and I've mostly seen positive posts, so I hope it works out. I'll update everyone.
Just an interesting side note... Kristen cut my hair yesterday, and told me she was named Colorist of the Year by a salon magazine!

day of at salon: total $20 less (or $10 less of hair or makeup only.
I had my makeup trial w/ her today, and was happy, so I booked her.

I did take pictures today, hopefully they will come out good, but I have a entire roll to finish before developing. And, I'm sorry, but I don't have a scanner.
I have dark skin and the colors I requested were pinks, natural, light. I am totally not used to wearing much makeup, so when she put foundation, powder, eyeshadow, blush, etc on and I looked in the mirror, it was hard for me to say whether I liked it or not. But, my sister said it looked great, and other people in the salon did too. It took a while for me to get used to it, but it really did look nice, and I'm sure on the day, she will take more time. She did the trial in about 45 minutes.
