kwr: random, what do you think, would you ever do it? a lil long

so i just threw something out there to fh over the weekend.

after the wedding, and hopefully no more than a year later after we get financially on our feet again, well have saved the money from the wedding for a downpayment along with some from the sale of my grandfathers apartment which i was supposed to live in basically rent/mtg free to be able to save for a downpayment but that didnt work out.

anywayyyysss..... so fh is always saying that he cant get a tranfer for his job because he loses all seniority and the pay outside of ny isnt as good, all true. but what if we had enough money or only like 20K short of buying a house flat out but in a totally different state than ny. still a nice, very safe area is would be our main objective, and not necessarily 2 minutes from everything (like in ny) but with things close enough to travel to at least on the weekends.

and then, we could live practically mortgage free if not like very very little per month and then bills and just living expenses. look for new jobs or try to get a transfer even if the pay would be a lot less.

we wouldnt have kids yet which would be the perfect time before kids got routed somewhere and im not super close with my family, neither is he.

would you just do it...go for it? or never could you just take a risk like that and its too random and drastic?

just thinking that sometimes a lot of people get tunnel vision and never think outside of the box...like they just assume they will continue to live in the same area, town, etc. and never give thought to any other possibilities. so...

I would do it. In a heartbeat.

You never know until you try. And better to try these kinds of things before you do have children and feel like you might be taking them away from everything that they know.

I would never do this...but my whole family and all my friends are here, and I would never want to leave them...so even if it means paying a mortgage and not living as grandly as I might be able to somehwere else...I'm staying here.

if we could both get jobs in the new area i would definitely consider it. although i wouldnt want it to be somewhere tooo far from our families.

i am very close with my family as is my fh with his but if we werent i would totally do it. I thin a new start someone where everything is crazy expensive is a good idea.

i'd make sure you guys have like a 3 month emergency fund in case you guys have trouble finding jobs or what have you but... FH and I would both be TOTALLY game.

I'm so not looking to stay on LI.
This place is a financial raping in the buttocks.

And I miss the midwest and basically just not living on top of everything.

I love the idea but I don't think I could handle being away from my friends and family. I grew up being extremely close with my fam so even right now, living an hour from them is really hard for me.

i would consider it. but i would miss my niece. and FH is pretty close with his family, so its probably not an option

plus i have moved out of NYC before for work....and once you are out of college, it is hard to make friends!!! aside from co-workers, its hard to really have a social life again, unless you join clubs or activities...so i think that would be hard. and i would miss my friends alot

also, you need to consider taxes!! there are some houses we saw on LI that is cheaper that the co-op were are *hopefully* buying, but taxes are a big factor.

idk a lot ot consider....i would still consider it...and visit the place ALOT in advance

Though we both say we'd love to live elsewhere, San Francisco or New Orleans (4 years for college wasn't enough for me!), we will probably stay around NYC since both our jobs revolve around finance and because MY family would be upset. We'd miss our family and friends but a visit is only a plane ticket away!

FH has always said that he wanted to move out of NY. I don't think I could do it though. All of our friends and family are here.

I did it....yes its extremely hard to move away from friends and family...honestly took me about two years to get use to it. We bought a home in CT at a very good price. Our mortgage is awesome, lol.

As far as pay goes in CT, I make the same as I did in the city. Probably more b/c taxes are less. We live in a great neighborhood, schools are terrific, people are friendly....I really can't say anything bad. Its definitely an adjustment.

I guess the only bad thing about living in CT is everyone is a Red sox fan
