KWR: The gym

KWR: The gym

I already know I need to go to the gym more, but I'm also kind of clueless when I'm there. I have been doing a half hour on the elliptical (with another five minute cool down) and then 3 reps of 12 on a bunch of the arm and stomach machines. Is that enough? Does it matter that I just do the same thing every time? I went on the bike once, but I prefer the elliptical. TIA!

I also love the elliptical... much more than running or biking at least. I used to work at a gym and would get some tips from the trainers - They say to make sure you do interval training...so on the elliptical you could do about 1 min at slow to medium, then 30 seconds to 1 minute really fast and repeat for 20 minutes or so. Also make sure you make the resistance more difficult as you go along. The trainers always told me in order to figure out if you're getting a really good workout, make sure you are really sweating and could barely have a conversation with someone (and interval training absolutely does that)!!

They say to try not to do the same thing every day or else your body will get used to it and it could be more difficult to get toned/lose weight. So pairing all that you're already doing with an outdoor power walk or bike ride or workout video might continuously challenge your body. Also, any type of workout class really helps, even if you only do it a couple times a week. I try to mix up yoga, kick boxing, and zumba as much as I can.

Hope that helps!!

I went for price over substance, no classes. But thanks for the tips! Maybe I can find a cheap zumba class or just use some DVDs.

i know how that is! I'm cost conscious of everything these days! When i miss my classes at the gym i run for 25 min and then i do the stairmaster (aka torture machine) for 25 min. and then do some weights machines even though i kinda feel like i don't realllyyyy know what I'm doing on those things lol
