A friend of mine and I are having a debate.. she wants to out labels on her outer envelopes for her invitations.
What do you all think of this?? I told her I didn;t think it was the best thing to do and she should consider something a little more fancy.. like laser calligraphy.
any input??'
TIA

Re: labels on outer envelops
I read in an etiquette book that labels on a wedding envelope is a major no-no! The reason being is it supposed to be personal and you should put the effort to make it look more personal and elegant :)

A friend of mine is doing her own labels in calligraphy font on her computer to save $$ however I read on an etiquette web-site that the invitations were supposed to be personal so they should be handwritten...

Re: labels on outer envelops
Its funny that you asked this, I was wondering myself, and then the other day we got a wedding invite, and it had labels on the outer and inner invite!! Personally after seeing it, I did not like it at all, and they were the clear labels. After seeing it, I made up my mind to print all of the envelopes on the computer.

Re: labels on outer envelops
One of my friends used labels for her invitations and I didn't like the way it looked(this was before I knew about what 'etiquette says'). I guess it was because her invitations looked so nice, and then the labels were just blah... But I think that's because she didn't use a nice font for the address labels.
However, in the whole scheme of things the labels is just a small thing. I would tell her to use nice fonts for her labels though. If she can't afford the calligrapher or don't want to spend $$ on it, then it's up to her.

Re: labels on outer envelops
We received an invitation recently that was handwritten in a calligraphy style and it looked lovely.
I used clear labels and a calligraphy font for our invitations, and I think they looked rather nice.
It's all a matter of personal style. I wouldn't worry too much about etiquette. People should be glad they're invited to share your special day, not disect the invitation envelope.
