Okay so we are highly considering picking sunday of labor day weekend 2014 as our wedding date, we need to choose soon since we meet with the hall monday! Our friends & family think its a great idea,they don't have to worry about work the next day. Those from out of town have a day to travel home. MY concern is I'm a teacher, I work for the city.... do i want to get married with the thought of work hanging over my head? I'm not even sure when I'd have to go back since the calendar isn't put out til late spring =/ It could be a week later (which is what i hope!) or 2 days after our wedding! I'm trying to weigh the pro's & con's... my fiancé is leaning towards labor day. Our other choice's are August 3 or 10th. My other concern is my good friend, who lives in Hawaii, will most likely be able to make it over the holiday weekend but mostly likely wont if i do it early in august... but its not guaranteed either way... i'm so torn!

I'm a teacher too. So is my fiancé actually. We purposely picked 8/2 because its right in the middle of the summer. Enough time to be off for a month and do all the last minute stuff (plus get a tan!!!) and still enough time afterwards to go on a honeymoon and wind down before its back to the grind. We were really looking towards late July buy everything was booked at our venue so we opted for a Saturday 8/2.

It really seems like you are leaning towards labor day weekend. I think you should go for it. Holiday weekends tend to book up fast though, so you might want to keep some backup dates in mind just in case the hall you like doesn't have the date you're looking for available. Good luck with the venue search!

crashing.... I don't know of u looked at a calendar bit I just googled it for u, labor day is sept 1st, the first jewish holiday in September is the 23rd and theother isn't till Oct on 2014 in my experience on the island at least in the public schools those affect the start date, with the Jewish holiday not being till almost the end of Sept I'm thinking school with prob start Tues the 2nd.
with that said u well have Mon to recover before work..... if u plan on going right to work.... how bad would it b if u took that first weekof? good luck! sorry I didn't really have an answer for u! hope I helped a little!

I gotta tell you, I'm a teacher too, and I really wouldn't do labor weekend. Not only do you have work two days later, but its the FIRST day. I don't know how city schools work, but if they're like the island, you'll also have meetings and conferences the week before.
It may be good for everyone else, but if its not good for THE BRIDE, then skip it! Early August will be way better.

I would also stay away from a holiday weekend wedding because everything books up faster.. You might have a hard time getting vendors that you want, hotels book up fast & air fare is usually higher for those who are coming from out of town.. It has its pros and cons but also a lot of people have traditions that they follow on holiday weekends and they also go away too!

Lguido is right, a lot of other 'first choice' vendors might be booked up already since it's already under a year. so if you have any vendors you know you want, I'd actually ask them first. I like the idea of labor day BUT Gambigoo made a great point, if you think you may have to go to work right after, what would you do for a honeymoon?
if the vendors and honeymoon aren't of a concern then I'd go for labor day.

Thanks so much everyone! For honeymoon we were planning to go during feb break so that wouldn't an issue but i'd like to at least enjoy being married before thrown back into reality... and there NO way i can miss first few days of school for anything! My hall has 3 dates in August available, including the 31st.... but i may have to disagree with my family (and fiance, egh!) on this one, as much as a convenience it may be for everyone else i know I will not 100% enjoy myself if i have meetings & PD's looming over my head in 2 days =/

i would book the sunday of labor day weekend! You have the entire weekend to spend time with family which is so great, and more people will make it. I am sunday of mem. day weekend for that reason
