Re: Ladies 35 and over
I was going to wait until 40 since I have heard so many times that they weren't sure how effective they are for under 40 breasts. What made you decide to do it sooner?

Re: Ladies 35 and over
Well I'm 38 and my doc last year suggested I get a baseline mammogram. I did in January and it turned out that I had an abnormality and had to go for 2 biopsies. It's a long story but they caught something very early and I'm glad I went. I have no BC in my family and am in good health etc..so you never know. They say 1 in 9 will get BC in their lifetime. Early detection saves lives.
Now when I go for my mammo (next Friday follow up) I will also have a MRI due to the type of abnormailty it was (hard to detect on a mammo)
I will be watched like a hawk for the rest of my life.

Re: Ladies 35 and over
I am 35 and was told not to do my baseline until I was 40 unless I had a family history. I do self exams and go to the GYN 2x a year. There is no need for me to go sooner.

Re: Ladies 35 and over
My ob-gyn advised a baseline at 35 so I had mine 2 years ago. The next one is at 40.
ETA: I have no family history.

Thanks for the info, you got me thinking about it.....I do have a family history and am about to turn 38. I think I might go get my baseline too.

Re: Ladies 35 and over
Some doctors suggest 40 but the more cautious doctors ( that i personally consider some of the better ones) will say 35. Its always better to be safe then sorry.. Breast Cancer will happen in 1 out of every 5 woman on long Island..Take control of your own health.. Most insurances will start covering routine Mamograms at age 35.

Re: Ladies 35 and over
Early detection saves lives. I was a little depressed about it at first but I did it and had a problem. I had a pre-cancerous condition that in a few years could have resulted in cancer. I had it removed...I have the all clear now, but I will never stop telling my sisters to go get it done.
A little prevention goes a long way. And for anyone who goes to get it done and has a problem, I will be here to hold your hand...
I had to add that family history of BC only accounts for 10% of all people with BC.
