Ladies I desperately need your help! Being that many of my girl friends are not married yet... I have registered for a knives set.. J.A Henckles or w.e but one of my girls friends who is married registered for a wusthof... each knife was like close to a 100 bucks! and I cannot have my guests spend that much on one knife.. I registered for a 10 piece knife set from Henckles with the block for 189.00 sale price... I just think it is easier with the block etc... Ladies who registered, what do you think? My friend said that I need a really goodchef knife and those are expensive... I mean 189.00 isnt cheap but its cheaper than 1 knife (the 8'chef knife) at almost 100 bucks.. should I register for both?

i would stick to your original choice...i registered for the set... its easier for guests to afford..and honestly- knives go quickly- so you will need a new set before you know it :)
hope this helps :)

I definitely think the block is a great idea, but I think if there is a specific knife that you like that's a little pricier, go for it and register for that one. Someone out there might really love knives and cooking and be thrilled to get you that one really nice knife you can keep for a long time as long as you take care of it and keep it sharpened. :) HTH

i say register for a mix of prices you never know what someone is going to want to spend
when we registered i didn't really look at prices that much

We ended up doing expensive ones. But my FH is a chef so that's what he wanted. Also he we didn't register for all. We registered for ones he didn't have and or that were in poor condition. It ended up being like 4 of them I think . If it was me though I would have done the cheaper ones. I feel like 100 on a knife is crazy in most cases

Really? To the best of my knowledge, they shouldn't go so quickly. A good JA Henckels or Wustoff set - or other good brands - should last a lifetime. There is a sharpening steel in those blocks and if used the knives stay sharp forever.
I think your choice is perfect. Personally, I don't think you will be able to even tell the difference between those and the $100 per knife set unless you own a steak restaurant. I would highly doubt that the $1,000 + sets are typically bought for household use.

Always trust your first instinct. I always find second guessing yourself complicates things.

if knives aren't important for you then get whichever ones you want! i have been wanting wusthof knives forever so i registered for them. normally i would agree that $100 for a knife is crazy but my friends know that i love to cook and that i WANT those knives!
also, we are currently using Henckles knives and they're fine. they get the job done.
