Ladies - we will be paying for our wedding ourselves and are looking for an off the beat kind of place to have it for next August/Sept/Oct. I'm out of state so I don't know Long Island venues too well but I'd like something a bit different from a country club or catering hall (please don't take offense, this is a second marriage and the first one was in a country club!) Please share any suggestions - we are looking at around 125 people and don't want to spend more than $100 per person - we are flexible about doing it on a Fri night. Help!!!!
Thanks!!!

The Metropolitan is really nice... inexpensive with a lofty Manhattan feel to it! It's in Glen Cove...

Re: Ladies I Need Your help!
I don't know much about the place, but what about Atlantis (the Aquarium). Seems kind of fun.
Ok... I'm just brainstorming here... but some others that come to mind: The Aviation Museum in Garden City One of those crusies around Manhattan (like maybe EastCoastYachtCruises.com) The Omni in Uniondale How about renting out a restuarant on Fire island? Like Matthews at Ocean Beach...they cater Go to a casino like Foxwoods? Or Mohegan Sun?
As for the vineyards, I guess it depends which you choose but most have a site fee of at least $3k. Try www,bedellcellars.com That place is gorgeous.

Re: Ladies I Need Your help!
there is a really great website that has alot of different listings for catering halls. I wanted something different then a catering hall as well and it was pretty hard to find something on LI. but there are some places that are pretty unique like museums that rent out spaces. if you are willing to go into queens or brooklyn, there is a great website that has a ton of places that are 'different' www.bizbash.com click on ny and then all venues and you can browse by type. If you are willing to do it in the winter, you will get a huge price break and winter weddings are georgous! (im not biased at all )
FM me if you want anymore info because i did a bunch of research into it.....good luck!

You can always get a great deal at Lenords,I personally didn't like the place w/ my taste. But u can definitely get something for under $100 pp for those months for probably a friday or sat.
I loved Villa Lombardi's. It will most likely be too expnesive for ur price range unless u possibly do the wedding in Oct or Nov (u need to book this for 07 tho, they could be already booked up!) At Villa, if you do it maybe like between Nov-March, you can get a really decent price, and if you don't HAVE TO HAVE the venise, u can probably get it for $100 or $105 maybe less. I paid alot bc we had every extra imaginable and it was a Friday night in July, and fourth of july week, thats why we paid a real lot. . . nothing what these other Lombardis brides paid . . . I hear some people paid between $90-100 at Villa, and Im like, we were so double that!
I HEARD Chaeteu La Mer was really good, I've been there but not for a wedding. My inlaws were there for a wedding and they said the foodwas really good. U can probably get $100 pp around Nov-March.
I heard not so great things at Chateu Briand . . .
Giorgios is very nice too, but is prpbably out of the price range, maybe alittle less than Lombardi's. . .
Land's End is supposed to be nice, but I heard their getting expensive. I didn't like how the outside looked the paint was all messed up at the toime I got enagaged
*It really all depends how flexible u are with months. It will probably be hard getting something for 2007, since its so close......Months like November-March the price is not that bad per plate, if ur willing to do that, usually the halls start going up in April, then their more pp in May, and they keep going up. Villa, I heard goes down in Augist aboit $5 pp. and goes back up in September, because septemeber and even october weddings have gotten very popular!
Woodlands is nice, so ive heard, my friend is getting married there on friday the 13!! but its like a mansion and Im personally not into those mansion things....so cold feeling....
Im having a mind blank of other halls!
hope that helps!

That'll be waaaaaay over $100pp. I looked into that when we started planning. The cheapest site fee was $6,000 (and went up to $15,000). That didn't include the tent, tables, chairs, catering, etc. Catering went anywhere from $125-250pp and that didn't even include the tent!
You might be able to look into museums or something like that... but again, I believe there is a high site fee. I think the Long Island Museum of Art has a $5,000 required donation (doesn't include anyting), but you might check just in case. You can look into the other museums around here, too.

That's where I'm having my wedding. FM me if you'd like details.
Their web site is www.themetropolitancaterers.com
ETA - They do go up over $100pp in their peak months (especially fall). If you want to do add ons and extras, you'll very easily get over $100pp even in an off month, as you could do anywhere. We're getting less than that (before tax and gratuity), but we're also not doing any add-ons. We're having a summer wedding, which doesn't appear to be among the busiest season for them which helped us on price. It's more expensive than say Feb, but not as pricey as Sept / October.
It's in the $90pp price range to start for a Sat night in an off peak month. Starts around $75 or $80 for a Fri / Sun. And, of course, you can always try to get them down in price.
I highly recommend them. I think they are a really good deal. Even though they're less expensive than some of the other places, it's absolutely gorgeous and the food is amazing. It's easily my personal favorite venue on LI!
If you contact them, ask to deal with Elaine. My BM is Pam, but I have dealt with Elaine, too, and would recommend her highly.

Re: Ladies I Need Your help!
Not for $100 you can not get that deal unless maybe Thursday night for Atlantical. Look at CLM and Swan Club. Lands End is so expensive I think I was quotes 165.

Are you willing to go out to the Hamptons? Atlantica Ballroom is a nice restaurant/ballroom/hotel. You can have the ceremony on the beach, cocktail hour and reception inside. It's pretty reasonably priced (for the Hamptons), and flexibility in dates and time of year will help (as it would with any venue).
I LOVE ATLANTICA but just a warning - we're doing a Saturday afternoon wedding there & it's over $200 a head (with tax & grat) and we aren't having the fanciest menu. Sat night is $80 more pp. It could be less in other months though.

Re: Ladies I Need Your help!
I had my wedding at the Atlantis Marine World Aquarium in Riverhead. I think you should definitely check it out if you are not interested in the catering hall type of place. Everything takes place in the aquarium, you get full run of the place. They did a wonderful job. You can check out my review on the review board. And here's a link to their website which has a ton of great pictures so you can get an idea of how they set things up. FM me if you have any questions. Good Luck!
