Okay, I need your honest opinion on this. FI and I want to go look at RH's over Thanksgiving break because I've been telling him about a few places and we want to see what they look like in real life and he's really excited to see some of them. So I go to call one of them just now to start making appts. and all of a sudden I hang up the phone and I get nervous. I have this nagging voice in my head that has been planted there by a few people saying 'It's too soon, you have so much time, so much can change in 3 years' so I start thinking what if they're right, should we really be looking now, etc. I feel like I can't enjoy my wedding planning because the date is so far away. And everyone is telling me to just enjoy being engaged and I am but how can I not help myself from wanting to look?
Okay, so here is my dilemma: Do I say the heck with it and just call all the places I want to see and make appts. so FI and I can have a nice day together and just see our options and basically do what we want?.....OR.....Do I listen to the nagging voice in my head and just put it off until whenever and continue to just look on the internet?
Any opinions you could give me would be extremely helpful and I'd be most grateful!! TIA!!!
ETA: Okay maybe this isn't about RH's per se but I still need help!

Re: Ladies I need your help about RH's
I am looking into 2009, and possibly 2010. While i havent started looking into RH yet other than the internet, sometimes it helps to go see them, even if there is time, so you can get a feel for them. Some may book this far in advance, or it will help you know which you really like and which are kinda 'ehhh' for when you are ready to book.
least thats my take on it, hope it helps

Re: Ladies I need your help about RH's
I'm in the same boat as you... I've already looked at about 20 places and have a small list of places that we're considering but I keep changing my mind about actually booking a place. Part of me wants to because I hear I'll lock in a lower price, and it will actually be easier for us to save money if we have a definate commitment somewhere. Money just hanging around in my savings account can be very tempting, lol. Then I think that we have plenty of time and a lot can happen in 21/2-3 years. What if god forbid we break up or are in a bad financial situation or find someplace we like better. So one day I feel like I want to book and another day I feel like I want to wait... ARRGGGHHH, I don't know what to do

Re: Ladies I need your help about RH's
I would look around...even if it's just casual drop-bys or on the internet. you may find soemthing you love and you may be able to lock in at the lower 2007 or 2008 rates... because i am sure the rates will only go up. that said though, i would shy away from booking a place that wants a very lage deposit or a place that wants you to pay a certain amount... (for example, my hall wanted NOTHING until a month before the wedding). that way, if you do find something you like and you book and for whatever reason you have to change your mind, that way you're not losing any money).

Re: Ladies I need your help about RH's
there is absolutely nothing wrong with looking! RH's can seriously book up in LI and NYC as much as 2-4 years in advance. ppl who are not up to date on how wedding have changed over the years, just don't get it!
by coincidence (and fate!) we walked into our RH 2 yrs to the day we are getting married, just to look at it for an appt. when we were there, many many dates in 2007 had already been booked (and this was feb. 2005) and some 2008's were going too!
if i can offer one piece of advice, (from a bride who's been planning her wedding for nearly TWO YEARS already)---DO NOT LISTEN TO OTHER PPL'S OPINIONS ON YOUR WEDDING! friends & family THINK they are helping, when they really are hindering you. if i've learned one thing in all this, it's go with YOUR (and FH's) GUT. if you wannat search for halls, DO IT. if you and FH are in agreement, to hell with what other ppl say. please believe me when i say that you have to stand your ground when it comes to wedding things.....and if you listen to what the nay-sayers tell you, when you get into the nitty gritty of it all.....it's gonna be worse for you!
btw--a little FYI for you. if you DO find a hall you love, and it happens to be in Suffolk County....the law states you have up to 6 months BEFORE your wedding, to change your mind. (no matter what your contract says), and you can get allll but about $100 back. this law does not affect nassau and NYC locations....but i thought i'd throw this tidbit in just in case to help!
Happy planning & Have a Happy Turkey Day!

Re: Ladies I need your help about RH's *updated*
Hey ladies,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this post but I knew it was going to be a long one. First I want to say thank you to everyone that helped me out and gave me suggestions. They were greatly appreciated! FH and I decided to make 3 appointments that day, 2 of which we kept and we had the best time ever, it was soooo much fun!! And, the best part is, we even settled on a place and we'll book it by January! I'M SO EXCITED!!
Also, just in case anyone still needed ideas for a RH, here's a mini-review of the places I went to:
1. Inn at East Wind: Best....place....ever!! I loved the atmosphere and Barbara our BM was so incredibly nice. FH and I had our senior prom here but now I see it in a whole new light and I definitely had that gut feeling when I came out of there. Very accomodating, two events at once but you're on completely opposite sides of the building and they start an hour apart. Lots of places to take pics inside and out.
2. Lands End: It's nice because you're the only event there but boy do you pay a pretty penny for it, very expensive!! Also, I don't like how you can use inside and outside facilities for the cocktail hour (FH and I felt cliques will form and no one will mingle or see the other half of people) Pic opportunities are nice only if it's a nice day. Cordial room is fabulous as is the bridal suite (even has a safe to use).
3. Chateau La Mer: When I arrived I was immediately turned off. I had an appointment but when I got there, there were bus loads of people arriving for a wedding in the upstairs room (you could even see the groomsmen in the window). I didn't like that I would not be allowed to see everything because my appt was scheduled at the same time as an event and I felt very uncomfortable, out of place, and that I was inconveniencing them (FH saw this and suggested we don't even go inside which we didn't). Please don't take offense to this everyone who loves CLM I think it's very beautiful and I hear nothing but good things but this just turned me off from the get-go.
I'm so glad FH and I decided to look, it was an amazing day! I hope this helps and I'm sorry it was so long. Again, this is all just my opinion so take all of this with a grain of salt! I hope everyone had a great Monday and it's only 4 days till Friday!!

I know Sunday definitely was their cheapest day. For a Saturday afternoon, to guarantee 220 people, we were quoted $115pp and that's without tax and gratuity. The price to guarantee 150-180 people was $150pp (that's with tax and gratuity). I'm trying to envision the paper in my head (I'm at school so I don't have anything with me) so from what I can remember, a Sunday afternoon/evening with a 150 guarantee I believe was somewhere in the 115-120pp price range (w/o tax and gratuity). And of course they will only go up with each year. And not to totally bash them, you do get A LOT for that price. The food options are insane, they always have 2 bars open. etc. It was just way out of our price range and like I mentioned in my mini review there were a few things that didn't appeal to us.
I hope this helps and when I go home in 2 weeks I can definitely give you the exact numbers if you haven't gone yourself by then!!
Oh, I should include East Wind too....Sunday's prices were in the $75-$95pp range (depending on the time of day and the dinner package you choose and where on the property you have it) and the inn doesn't see a price increase for the upcoming years!

Re: Ladies I need your help about RH's *updated*
Thanks Nicole for the prices!! I appreciate it...
Lands End sounds expensive even for a Sunday wedding...man...but I guess like you said you are paying for what you get!!
Oh and you said you are at school right now- are you another young bride to be? I am 21 but by the time we get married I will be just shy of 24. I am currently in school also, getting ready to graduate this May...but I commute to the city 2 days a week fr school unfortunately having an apt the past 2 years was too expensive and I wanted to save money this last year to go to Grad school!!

No problem, happy to help!!
Yeah I am another young bride to be. I'm 20, turning 21 on Friday, so I'll be 23 when I get married and FH will have just turned 24. It's kinda weird, I feel like such a little kid on this site but everyone is so nice and they take you seriously. I graduate in May too and I'll be going back to LI for grad school. Planning a wedding AND getting my masters degree....oh man, I can't wait

Re: Ladies I need your help about RH's *updated*
OH NO!! I HATE FINALS!!
School work is killing me, not to mention working and christmas shopping for not only my fam but for FH fam since he is stationed in San Diego (in the Marine Corps) and doesnt really have time to do so!!
But whatever school is over in less than 2 weeks!! Cant wait just need to get all my work done and being on this site 24/7 doesnt help lol!!
But I am a PSYCH major now but want to teach special education- so going for my Masters for that at Hofstra- I love psych but couldnt see myself as a psychologist!

My honest opinion. Casually look around, get info from friends and family about places but there is no hurry to book anything. I definitely say enjoy your engagement. I did that for 2 months after I got engaged, I finally had to take action because I am getting married in 08. Although wedding planning can be fun, it is also stressful.
