I am looking in the Plainview area - as I mentioned last year, my stepdaughter will be 16, and her mom was supposed to look at places, but she so far hasn't done anything... which I had a bad feeling might happen...
Preferably in the Plainview area, or it could be around Huntington - but here's the catch...
It has to be a BYO type place - where you cook your own food, set up own tables, etc - like a KofC or VFW hall... I know some of you ladies are having weddings in places like this, or know of people who are, so could you please help me out by pointing me in the right direction?
also, affordable DJ's who would fit a sweet-16... Thanks!

I second Ralph from High Energy! I used them for my engagement party in April, they were awesome. I booked them for my wedding too! Great prices and lots of party favors to choose from!

I had my sweet 16 and Smithtown Landing Country club-I loved it-they did an awesome job and it has also recently been redone. They were reasonably priced-but I don't know if you could BYO food? I also recommend Rantin and Ravin for a DJ-they are wonderful!

Theres aplace, I believe its Bethpage. I think Its called The Sterling, Supposively its a weddding hall, but never knew anyone that got married there. Depending on how many people, see how much it is. . . . Or what a bout like I said, a nice restaurant, or a house party?

VFW buildings in Farmingdale (by 109 I think!) or Hicksville (Old country Rd and 107).

I highly recommend the VFW (or maybe KofC) in Lynbrook or the Firehouse in Wantagh. Both are REALLY nice on the inside.

Re: Ladies - need your help finding a hall!
I know there is a KofC in Lindenhurst, only about 20-25 minutes south of Plainville (right down 135). My dad and step-mom got married there 18 years ago. My step-mom said they have redone the inside.
FM me if you want more details.

Re: Ladies - need your help finding a hall!
DH's family has all of their parties at the koc hall in Farmingdale (on Rt. 109) and we have a great time there. I also think they have a VFW hall in Farmingdale as well on Main Street. I am not positive if it is on Main Street, but I know they have one because I went there in Jan for a bridal shower there. Both are great places (the VFW place is a little nicer though). I also highly recommend Vinny from High Voltage for the DJ. His prices are EXCELLENT! Also check out Wantagh Deli and Caterers for food and drinks. We had a family picnic (I know you are probably looking for different food choices than what is served at a picnic but just to give you an idea) that they catered and it was ONLY $4.95pp and that included hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, BBQ chicken, Sausages, buns, all condiments, beans, corn on the cob, pickles, utensils, and napkins. For an additional $5.00pp it included unlimited beer (keg beer), soda, water, and juice. We also paid an extra $20 an hour to have someone come and cook the food for us right their (so none of the guys in our family had to take time away from the picnic to stand behind a hot grill and cook). Like I said I don't think you will be having a BBQ, but their prices are great if you want to check them out. FM me if you need any additional information.
