If you wrote your own vows…did you write them on a card and read off the card? Did you memorize them? I have them on a card but is it too impersonal if im staring at the card the whole time reading and not looking at FH?

Re: Ladies wgo wrote their own vows..
i will be writing my own vows ... my goal is to memorize them ... but i will have a card handy also (just in case i'm too nervous and forget the words)
i don't think it would be too impersonal ... you would just need to make sure you're looking up every so often

Re: Ladies wgo wrote their own vows..
I think I´m 'writting' the whole ceremony!! Since I´m overseas I can´t really meet with my officiant and I´m having problems with calling the states. So I went to look at different options online and I´m picking and choosing parts I like and I´m just gonna email her. Its easier this way.
In looking through the options I saw one where the couple wrote their own vows but the officiant did a repeat after me thing where she broke it down. Thats another option to the cards.
But I think if they´re personal vows you wrote yourself with FH in mind it may be best to memorize them. But I´d also have a backup written down or make sure the officiant has them so if you get so nervous you forget them you can either read them or hint to the officiant to tell you.

I'm planning on writing my own vows and attempting to memorize them. But I'm definitely going to keep the card handy just in case, definitely don't think it's impersonal; I mean, you DID take the time to write them and make them heart-felt after all.

I used pastor april and she typed them up and handed us each our vows on a nice piece of paper....I would not rely on memorizing it....you have so much going on that day it will be lost!

I plan to have them on a card and try to glance at them but not 'read' them too much.
