Re: Ladies who have quit smoking...

it helped that i had a cold and couldnt even attempt to smoke a cig... thats how i got through my first week pretty successfully without even knowing i was gonna quit!

fh & i did it together cold turkey... he smoked for longer than i did but for some reason, i had worse cravings than he did i remem i went without one for about 4 months, then got hooked on djarums (clove cigs) and smoke those steadily for about 4 months thinking they werent as bad as reg cigs... then they started tasting nasty to me so i stopped everything... and then got hooked on cigars (black n mild) this past july which i still enjoy every now n then

So at this point, its not so much a nicotine fix, but an oral fixation and its been a long road... def not easy

I won't be much help because I woke up one day after a night of excessive drinking and smoking and just quit and never had another. I think you just need to be at the right place to be able to quit. And yes you will have cravings for the rest of your life..... I still do and so does my mom and she hasn't smoked since the 60's.

I went through lollipops like crazy! Blow pops and tootsie roll pops especially. I also found the hardest part was not so much the nicotine but the habit of what to do with my hands. Believe it or not, I grabbed a pack of those plastic coffee stirrers and walked around with those like they were cigarettes. It definitely helped.

Hang in there! It's so worth it to quit! I'm proud of you that you've gone 6 days - just worry about getting through the rest of this day...tomorrow will take care of itself.

Re: Ladies who have quit smoking...

So glad you quit - congratulations! This is the first step to a healthier and longer life!

When I quit smoking, I kept tons of gum, lollipops, and rubberbands around. Besides addiction to nicotine, part of smoking for me was just habit, including doing something with my hands. I used the rubberbands to play with and keep my hands busy. Used the lollipops and gum to keep my mouth busy. I also kept around a ton of scented lotions and stuff to remind myself of how great I'd smell now that I wasn't going out to smoke a cigarette every 45 minutes. It's a tough journey but it's well worth it and you will feel so great about yourself once you're all cleared out (you should be on the last few days of coughing up and clearing out whatever was in your lungs and withdrawal should be fading now. What you're feeling now is an urge to do something that was just a bad habit). Congratulations and good luck. Stay strong!

i think it's easier when your not around people who constantly smoke because that's when you want it the most. Sunflower seeds helped me, they give you something to do with your hands.lol I still have one or two when i'm out at a bar or something, but i refuse to buy a pack especially at what is it 9$ these days?

Re: Ladies who have quit smoking...

How long have you been smoke free pepper?!

I'm eating cough drops like crazy!!!!!!! Its weird, its not even the nic fits driving me to smoke as i'm using the patch. Its the 'i smoke at this time of day' habit thats hard to break.

That and the fact that EVERYONE around me smokes, all my best friends, FH (he keeps quitting and going back), my brothers, cousin, etc.

I'm gonna start a chain reaction. Happened because I got sick and then I figured, hey I haven't smoked in 2 days, nows a good time to quit, the hard part is over right?!?!??!

Now if I can get through a night out, its official.

I have been smoke free since 2002! It was really one of the most difficult times in my life. The hardest things for me, like you said, were kicking all of the little side habits that I had formed as a smoker - for example, smoking whenever I drank coffee, the first cigarette of the day, smoking at a certain time of day, etc. Then quitting almost feels like there are so many voids throughout the course of your day. At the same time, it felt so amazing to shed the chains of smoking and not be sitting in class thinking of the next cigarette, or worrying about being far from home with only 2 cigarettes left and not enough money to buy more. You live with those 'hidden' anxieties as a smoker that feel like such a weight has been lifted when you've quit for a while!

Re: Ladies who have quit smoking...

With 6 days down you can def stick to this! Just remember you have gone this long.

I have been smoke free for 3 years. I focused on the bad parts of smoking. The smell, the way it felt when I smoked on an empty stomach, the coughing. I also kept watching those videos by the victims of some kind of smoke related disease. I also started working out like crazy and then was so impressed with myself that I could run two miles without stopping- something I couldn't do before. Also, the BEST thing about quitting is the money you save. Everyday put the amount you spend on cigs in a jar and in 6 months, you will have a vacation- NO joke. You save so much. Good luck!
