When I look at what a wedding will cost me here on Long Island for a 5 hour affair I thought about this. I am the groom. My GF really doesn't know much about New York like I do. Taking everybody up to the Catskills staying at a hotel, getting meals included and all the activities included, and having the wedding up there. It would cost me a little bit more up that way but at least it's not over in 5 hours. It would be more like a 2 day party!!!! Please tell me what you think of this idea? I was looking into places like The Nevele, or Villa Roma. Thanks

Re: What would you do?
I went to a weekend wedding in Lake George a few years ago and it was one of the best times I had ever had!

Totally up to you! If you feel like not having a large party of a wedding, than there is no need.. My cousin had just a few relatives out in the Gazebo right off of Sunrise HWY (i forget what town). It was a beautiful ceremony. They had music, a priest and flowers and everything, and then they took everyone out to dinner.

Re: Ladies..I need your help!!
i was very much considering doing this since fh and i live in the hudson valley...but everyone lives on li so we came down instead of everyone coming up
check out the Onteora Mountain house...it has such majestic views!!!
I'm originally from upstate (across the river from the Catskills). If I still lived there it was my dream to get married in New Paltz area at the Mohonk Mtn House... But I bet it costs an arm and a leg! Mohonk Mtn. House

Nice place but a little to small. I'm planning on about 125 people. Thanks anyway.

I see your getting married at the Beach Club Estate. I was there yesterday checking there prices. Beautiful place. Spoke to Bill. I'm really leaning towards a weekend in the Catskills. We're taking a ride up there Wednesday to look around at a few places.

Re: Ladies..I need your help!!
Weekend weddings are so fun, We went to a wedding in Boston last year, The whole weekend was so much fun, Friday night like 50 of the guests got together in a restaurant/bar and had a blast. Saturday was the wedding and after the wedding we all went to the hotel bar and then were partying in each others suites all night, and then sunday morning we all had breakfast together and then everyone went on a tour. It was awesome!!!!!!!

If you're thinking of Villa Roma or the Nevele, go for the Nevele. The Villa Roma is a little shabby and the food isn't the best. The Nevele is in better condition IMO.
I think a weekend event is the best! Have a wonderful wedding

Sounds like a blast to me!! Go for it if you don't have a large number of guests to include!

Re: Ladies..I need your help!!
Ladies: Thanks for all the replies so far. We are going up to the Catskills on Wednesday to check out 3 places. Villa Roma, Kutsher's and Nevele. I'm planning on between 100 and 150 people. The more I think about this idea of mine the better I'm liking it. 100 or so of my family and friends for a 2 day wedding weekend party. A party to remember!!!!! I'm looking at prices for all this. For about 3-5 thousand dollars more, then the prices I was quoted here on Long Island for a 5 hour party. I think this party will happen. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Ladies..I need your help!!
You should definately discuss it with your GF/FI? If you go that route, you will definatley have a much smaller wedding, and family may not be able to attend.
Its personally not something that I would want to do, so you should definately discuss it with her.

Re: Ladies..I need your help!!
I did discuss it with her. We went to a few places out here on the island and she and I both feel it's really not worth the $$$ for a 5 hour party. She LOVES the idea about going upstate for a wedding and making it a weekend. We are both in our 40's and she has children and grandchildren. Why not let them come in for a few days and celebrate there Mother's marriage with us? Instead of them coming to our house and staying here, this way all lodging and meals are taken care of and all the kids are busy all day with activities. That's why we are going for a ride together on Wednesday up there to check it all out.
Regarding family coming, we have a family reunion party(on my side) to attend on Saturday the afternoon before the wedding up in Nyack. I felt that from there the family can drive about 1 hour north and enjoy the rest of the weekend together and we will get married on Sunday. Monday is a holiday. Columbus Day. So many people can travel home on that Monday.
