Ladies....put on your thinking caps.

An old friend of mine had a brain tumor removed a year or so ago. It's come back and she needs to go back in for surgery. She has health insurance, but it's still going to cost her a lot of money out of pocket (the exact amount I'm unsure of). SOOO.....I'm trying to come up with some ideas for raising money. Can anyone think of any????? TIA!

What about a garage sale? You can get everyone involved even kids and people tend to be more generous when they know it's going to a good cause. If you make posters and plan it out good you can raise a great deal to help her out. I've seen it done before and it worked out well for everyone.
You could also hold a benefit for her my family owns a bar and we hold a lot of benefits for different people. Maybe talk to someone at a place she frequents a lot. If you need help please don't hesitate to ask I have done a lot of fundraising and it is one of my favorite things to do. FM me if you have any other questions. I hope your friend will be ok and my thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family and friends.

My sister works in a school and the best fundraiser they have every year is the Pie in the Face. People pay money to throw a pie in someone's face (the principal included!). Perhaps in your workplace (or hers) you could arrange something similar?

Garage sale, bake sale, etc.

What about doing a bar fundraiser? You know like a $30 all you can drink thing from like 7-11 and then 10% of bar profit thereafter. Check you local bars. Lots of bar owners will do stuff like that just to get a larger, different crowd in. Plus it makes the bar look good. And who doesn't like getting a good deal on drinks?!

I am not sure where she is having her surgery, but most hospitals have a financial assistance policy that can help patients out even if they have insurance. Also, make sure she appeals the claims to the insurance company even after they make payment. Insurance companies like to play games and pay little on claims at first. Usually if the patient puts up a fight they will pay more. If she can get a case worker from the insurance company to work with her also that would be helpful. And from personal experience, staying in touch with the billing office is the #1 thing she needs to do. Each time she gets a statement, follow up with the billing office to see what the status of her account is. Also, if the doctor that is performing her surgery is not part of her insurance plan, see if a rep from the insurance company with negotiate with the doctors office for payment. This means that the insurance company will pay X amount and the patient could not be responsible for anything at all. (She might have some responsibility if she has a deductible).......

So to sum it up......make sure she brushes up on her letter writing skills and puts on her boxing gloves......(just don't move around too much after surgery )
