Lamaze?

When and where do you do this?

I did this in my 8th month. They offered classes right in my OB-GYN office, but you can akso take them at hospitals. Most insurances will cover at least some of the costs.

I did it one Saturday for 8 hours when I was 8 months at my hospital... and personally for me it did NOTHING to help

Re: Lamaze?

We didn't do Lamaze, I heard that it's not that common anymore and many women don't even use all those breathing techniques during labor.

Instead, we attended childbirth ed. classes that my MW held at the hospital. It was 4 classes, 2 hours each. She covered stages of labor, hospital policies, tour of the hospital, and other details we need to know when going into labor. Most of her patients are planning a water birth so the classes were also specific to that.

I would ask your DR or MW where they recommend classes for you. I think Bradley classes are pretty popular. Misha recommended this woman to me: Celeste Rachell in Rosyln. Her number is 516-484-6545. Her classes are filled up until after my due date so I didn't sign up. Actually, my MW delivered her babies.

Hopefully we'll find out from Misha in the next day or so how the classes helped her!

Re: Lamaze?

My first time (12 years ago!!!) I took a Lamaza/childbirth class, I believe, in my 7th month. It was, at least, five different sessions, given in my doctor's office. Very expensive!! Then when I was two weeks late, they had to induce me and by the time I was ready to push I had had another reinforcement (epidurel) and I didn't feel a thing.

This time around, (second marriage), we're taking the one day 'refresher' class at the hospital, which will include the tour.

I hope this helps....

P.S. Talk to your doctor's office and they will help you in finding a class that will suit your needs.

I'm taking Lamaz'zzzzzzzzzz'e now. We had our 2nd of 4 classes last night. We're taking it at LIJ - where we plan to deliver our Peanut.

The class is $190 and while I'm not sure the breathing techniques will help me, it is quite informative - not to mention, the 'movies' scare the bejeebers out of DH - that's fun to watch!

Good luck!!
