My landlords are ridiculously loud. They have people over on week nights ALL the time and congregate in the kitchen (which is right below my bedroom) and shout and blast music till all hours of the morning (seriously, like 3AM). Right now I can't hear my TV over the bass in their music. It vibrates my floor, my couch, my bed, my whole apartment.
I know I probably sound ridiculous complaining about this. But as a tenant who pays rent, do I have the right to ask them to turn it down? I realize that it's a weekend so I'm not going to complain now. But for future reference, is it out of line for me to complain?

This is sort of a tough situation, but I do think you have the right to say something, especially if they're keeping you awake late at night.

Not really its their house. I think it would be bad if you were loud and they were quite. Just turn the tv up louder then their radio

i think thats not right...its a total lack of respect IMO. especially when its happening at 2am on a tuesday night!! believe me...the TV volume is up! After this I will NEVER live in a 2 family house again! It's a shame that thats pretty much all you can find on LI.
thanks for the opinion though, I do respect it. I'm just frustrated!

I know you are frustrated. My cousins live downstairs They do NOT own the house but they are always on my case about stupid crap. But they DON'T own the house. If they did though I'd listen. Start looking around for a new place though really.

I would but I'm moving in the early summer anyways so it doesnt seem worth it at this point.
i thought you might be in the opposite situation as me!! really i have a high tolerance for things but I'm just over my limit with this! but as you say...I dont own the house...
BTW lcherian, I live in a 2-family house. I live upstairs, the landlords live downstairs.

Re: Landlords from h*ll
Be glad you live ABOVE them, rather than BELOW them!! Imagine the extra noise you'd get from people moving/walking around above you!!
Sorry for the aggrivation .. GOOD LUCK!
I really don't have any advice .. and has for opinions .. I don't really know that you saying something would help .. it may only aggrivate the situation .. but I'm spineless when it comes to stuff like that.
On the flip side .. before we moved in to the apartment we had .. I warned the landlady of my late hours I kept because of work .. it was 'no problem' .. until AFTER we were moved in .. we weren't even in for 1 month, and she told us we had to GET OUT. Meanwhile .. hubby & I are very, very quiet people .. seriously .. anyone we told this story to was shocked .. because loud just is not us.
Ultimately, we didn't have to leave .. she changed her mind .. but then 1 month after telling us to get out, she decided she was going to sell the house instead!
And the landlords that took over were even worse!

anyways, in every lease there is a convenant of quiet enjoyment. i would voice your concern to the landlord first. if it continues, i would then voice it a second time. if it persists again, you may then be justified in breaking your lease and moving out of the apartment (constructive eviction).
ny law says that, 'A 'constructive eviction' exists where the physical expulsion of the tenant is not effected, but the acts of the landlord so interfere with the beneficial enjoyment of the premises as to necessitate an abandonment thereof.'

I had so many issues first was vaccuming at 8pm and them telling me the vaccum was to loud. Then for Halloween I hung up three signs out side for halloween and they told me I live on the second floor so take my stuff down. WELL They don't own the house. but if they did I wouldn't have done it.

Oh my goodness!! Please don't think I'm that petty! This is the only thing I have issue with - and I haven't even complained yet. That does stink and I don't blame you for being frustrated!
