Is it me or is the amount of food you get at Lands End (for $110 and up per person) quite a bit LESS than you get at other places? I know cocktail receptions tend to have too much food to begin with but, still, if we're spending all that money, I feel we should be getting more rather than less. The package they gave us was for 10 hot passed hors d'oeuvres, 2 cold, a pasta station, an antipasto display, and one other station of our choosing (like a carving station or an asian station). Other places we looked at included quite a bit more for the price. What has been other people's experiences, either as brides or as attendees of weddings at Lands End? We are seriously looking at this place as one of our top choices but want to make sure we're getting a good value for our $$.... Your thoughts are appreciated!

Lands End Cocktail Reception
We are thinking of booking Flowerfield. Lands End and Flowerfield are both owned by the same caterer and offer the same menu. I was thinking the exactly the same thing that seemed like a small amount of food when we were looking at the place. What does everyone else think?

Lands End Cocktail Reception
I went to a wedding at Land's End in August. There definitely was not a great number of choices, but of course there was enough food there for the number of guests. It was fine for me(because I don't eat a lot), but my family likes to see tons of food and some people did comment on the lack of variety.
I am getting married there in July and I think the food is more than enough. From what I hear (a coworker went to a tasting) is that the portions are so large, that the food is continuous (not just a few trays of a lot of little things) I hear nothing but rave reviews about the food at all Lovin Oven Halls.
The price is also for being the only party there, the beautiful grounds, the different elegant rooms, and the location on the water with a small private beach and marina and the ferry passing in the background. They also include top shelf liquor, wine and beer (and they do not only offer one type of top shelf liquor - they offer a variety of top brands, use great wine for the tables and I think they have Heinekin and Sam Adams on tap. They also go over the enitre place every Monday with toothpicks and Qtips to clean the place down to every crack.
The staff is very curteous and attentive and from what I have heard from other brides there (and Flowerfields) is that the employees take care of everything so you can enjoy your day.
I fell in love with it and I have heard that from a few places, but if you did not get that feeling I would continue to look around for a place that did.
Ifyou have any questions, let me know.

Have you looked at the Port Jefferson Country Club?
We just got married there and it was truly incredible!. The food was fabulous & plentiful, you are the ONLY bride, the grounds are breathtaking (overlooking the water) and we were spoiled rotten by the people there. We got married the Sunday of Labor Day weekend and with tax & gratuity paid approx $88 per person.

Some more ideas for you to look into
I am getting married at The Hamlet in Hauppauge. It is a one-wedding at a time and I get a lot of food, plus a beautiful room and tons of great service.
I think $110 is a bit high. I agree, look at the Port Jeff Country Club. I went to a wedding there and it was great. The food was great, service was great and the room was beautiful. Also try Meadows Club. Oh, and the WaterMill. I have heard only the best things about the food and service for all of those places.
And East Wind. I have not been there but it is supposed to be magical.
Hope this helps.

Thanks! The Hamlet is the golf course, yes? I think that's pretty close to where my folks live in Commack. Do you find you have a problem with the golfers walking by? Can you tell me where East Wind and/or Meadow Club are located and whether either, perchance, is on the water? I did look at Port Jeff CC and we liked it...it's definitely one of our top contenders. Although, if we did a Sat nite there, the cost would also be well over $100 per person (when you factor in tax and gratuity). Did you think the food, service, etc., you received was worth it? I'm so confused...

PJCC...in my opinion...
Hi Alison! I'd be happy to share our PJCC experience with you. The food was wonderful and the presentation was gorgeous. We couldn't get over how much food there was at the cocktail hour, and the dinners were so good! Our maitre'd Darcy was unbelievable. She and our attendant Danny made sure we were spoiled rotten all day long. Our day was just perfect.
We did look at the Meadow Club and were not impressed in the least. The food we had at the tasting wasn't very good and although the grounds are pretty, it's not the waterview we wanted. Also we thought they were a bit overpriced for what they were offering. I had been to a company party there once before and did not like it at all. It just waasn't right for us.
Our friends were married at East Wind 2 years ago and it was wonderful! I don't know what they paid, but the food was great and the grounds are beautiful. The main drawback for us was the location. Wading River is quite a drive if you have guests coming from the 5 boroughs.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I'd be happy to help if I can. Good luck!!!

To Shelby re PJCC...in my opinion...
Thanks! Yes, I'd love to hear more about PJCC. Would you mind emailing me directly at [email protected]? That would be great! One silly-sounding question about your coctail reception: did you have a pasta station? I didn't see one on the menu they gave us and, being Italian, I have a feeling it would be missed if we didn't have one... :-)
Oh, and our guests won't only be coming from 5 boroughs, but from all over the country! In fact, my FI and I live in the Washington, DC area, which is making all this planning even more stressful to begin with! So, you're probably right that Wading River is too far...that's the same reason we didn't think the wineries would work out.
Thanks again!

To Alison
PJCC: My friend's wedding had a pasta station. It was really great. Just ask them, maybe they throw it in or maybe you can swap it with something else.
I still think the Meadow Club is nice. No waterview, that is true. But I have had some friends have really nice weddings there. But everyones likes and dislikes are different.
I am getting married at the Hamlet in Hauppauge, not the one in Commack. The Hauppage one is across from Computer Associates, exit 57 LIE. It is on a golf course, and we can take photos anywhere on the grounds we want, plus the Wyndam Hotel allows to take photos inside if the weather is not good. It is not inexpensive but it is also not really expensive. You should see it and see what you think.
East Wind is out pretty far but I have heard great things about it. Also they are opening their own hotel so that might make it even easier. I have heard it is worth the trip to see it. Not sure on price. Just start a new post 'East Wind prices' lots of girls on the board will answer you.
just one more point - Land's End and Flower Fields look expensive, but Lovin Oven tells you up front that they do not try to sneak in any 'other' charges. ie different table cloths...and certain silverware...or all those other little fees that I saw at the big wedding facilities. So whereever you pick, just make sure that you understand all the costs.

Lands End Cocktail Reception (LONG)
We are having our reception there next month and we thought that the cocktail hour was really good. Other places may have offered a few more things, but their choices were things like meatballs, pigs in a blanket and other common choices. Land`s End offers items such as lamb chops, crab cakes, scallops, etc. That was more of what we were looking for. I have also spoken with quite a few people that have been to weddings at Land`s End and they do not have a bad word to say about the food, service, etc. We also went to the tasting a few weeks ago and the food was REALLY YUMMY (I am getting hungry thinking about it). We have been happy with them so far. Also remember, people need room to eat their dinner. Just my opinon. Happy planning and I am sure you will pick the perfect place for your reception. Land`s End was it for us.
Sorry so long!

Re: Lands End Cocktail Reception
I got married there last July on a Sunday morning/afternoon. We paid slightly less having it on a Sunday as opposed to a Saturday evening. It is well worth the cost - the food is exceptional, it has beautiful surroundings and is tastefully decorated. Trust me when I tell you that your guests will have more than enough food. I do recall that we worked something out where we had several hot food stations (during cocktail hour) and didn't pay that much more. You really need to sit down with the staff and negotiate the best deal. They will treat you like a princess and there are lots of other extras thrown in that you may not realize. I've been to other catering halls where they had an abundance of food but the food was rather bland and not always the best quality. I saw about 10 reception halls before I made my decision - and Lands End happened to be the last place I saw (I didn't know anything about it either - was recommended through a friend). If you have your wedding in the summer, you can't beat the grounds with the water in the background. Not sure how to attach a link, but if you go to my photoalbums (LandJ), you can see some background pics under my wedding pictures. Hope this helps!
