Language Arts VS Reading Teachers ?

Im in the process of getting my Masters. I just dont really understand, lets say if I get a dual major, Elem Ed and Language Arts, what does that allow me to do? Teach Language Arts ? but when you teach ELem Ed, dont you teach all subjects?

and what about Reading teachers? thats a more specialized one-on-one type thing, right? and requires a whole different certification?

What exactly is taught in language arts, refresh my memory? reading, spelling?

after teaching Elem Ed, is it common for teachers to branch off and teach a particular subject that they loved most ?

Anna-
Sorry, but I'm confused now....are you asking which to choose as a concentration - LA or reading? When I did my undergrad work, my major was Elem. Ed with a concentration in communication. I took courses that dealt with speech, but it didn't certify me to be a speech therapist or anything like that.

To get your certification in Reading and Elem. Ed. would certify you to be a mainstream classroom teacher OR a Reading Teacher (which yes, deals with less kids). Language Arts won't technically do anything for you...

But once you get certified provisionally, whatever job you get is where you would need to become permanantly certified. Not sure how you would go about getting permanantly certified in both, if you're only working one job...
