I'm supposed to go bm dress shopping with my 2 FSIL's. I called up the stores to see if they carry the dress I'm looking at for the BM's and all the stores only carry it in a size 10. FSIL is a bigger girl and I don't think she'll be able to try the dress on. I don't want to make her feel bad, she's already self conscience about her weight Any ideas on what I can do?

most BM dresses are only size 10, I had that problem as well.

My sister is a larger size, and I know Davids Bridal carrys larger sizes. I think I'm gonna go there. I really wish I could help more.

I had the same problem with my cousin...maybe they have a different make but a similar style that she could try...they actually had a bigger size downstairs for us in the style I wanted...I am not sure if it was one they carried or if they happened to have one that someone ordered and hadnt gotten alterations yet

Re: larger bm's
If it makes you feel any better, I have found that most samples to try on are smaller sizes and do not fit a lot of people...I think you will find that in most places...sorry

i also encountered the same problem. i went shopping with a friend and my MOH. MOH is petite and my friend is definitely bigger than the sample sizes they provide at the store. my friend just picked out a couple of different dresses she liked and had my MOH try it for her. i guess you kinda know what type of dress will flatter your own body. hopefully she'll be happy with it.

Re: larger bm's
do you know what style you want? maybe you can call around first to see what sizes they carry so the you dont get stuck with a size 10

I did, I called up 3 different stores. We'll be trying them on in NJ since that is where the FIL's live and the live in the mountains so we're limited to stores in close proximity

Re: larger bm's
Honestly, you are going to realllly limit what she is able to try on if you keep it to just plus size dresses though you can try to give her a heads up and make her as comfortable as possible.
I'd suggest wearing a camisole or sports bra with boyshorts for more 'coverage' or something along these lines. Also, let her decide whether anyone will help her with the dress on or if she will wriggle into it herself as to avoid any awkwardness.
you'd be shocked, a size 10 in certain styles will fit someone up to a size 19/20 (and by fit I mean cover her up and just not zip).
Oh yea, and get some drinks afterwards, this is what I did everytimmmme

I would say speak to her about it or ask her to help you research so like that she doesnt feel bad. Let her know that even if they may not have the sample in the store you can definitely order her size. I will be having the same problem so if you find any stores please let us know.

Re: larger bm's
Yea that was like me trying on wedding dresses. I wasn't going to limit myself due to a sample size. One of my BM is the same size as me and she couldn't fit in a few dresses and had her back exposed. If the girl weighs more then even the dress can be open in the back then let her see it on everyone else and say do you like it?
Realize its not the same as trying on a dress but when your big you are aware of the difficulty when going clothing shopping.

Re: larger bm's
being that I'm superskinny.. I'm not really too qualified to answer this question.. haha..
I think it's very hard to know how the dress will look when you can't even pull it up over your hips.. but if you can get ones that atleast can be clipped in the back it will be ok.. and just try to make it as easy as possible by calling around to see who might have it in the largest size .. and even if you have to drive a little farther.. it would be worth it for everyone

Re: larger bm's
my sister is a large bm., she tried it on and got kinda upset...then I told her to put the dress on from the top and it fit., it didnt close., but you know what,......when her dress comes in., it will fit her- and she understood that.
I would suggest that you go alone with her....a different time than the other small BM's so she wont get offended.

well that's the problem she's in from NC, she's staying with FH's family in NJ and we can't go and not invite his other sister who is a size negative 3.
